HomeMy WebLinkAboutRobin Silva Veterans Day Letter to Editor I like so many others "forgot" what it meant to be a veteran. Whether you served
stateside over overseas you were a family. Your branch of service among
yourselves may have started more than one fight but when it came to God, country
and the American Flag you would have to take on everyone.
The purpose of Veterans Day is to "Honor All Who Have Served" — I hadn't got
involved so how could I get mad at anyone else for not supporting our veterans on
Veterans Day. That day I vowed it would never happen again as long as I was
breathing. Come March I started with my plan — trapped a few friends and spent
most of the year trying to build a day we could celebrate and be proud of. Last year
we had Veteran museums, Flyover, BBQ, a USO Canteen, and entertainment, with
over 650 people marching and about 2,500 watching. Our hopes this year are
bigger and we have 5 days of various veteran events to "Honor Those Who Have
Served ".
This event tonight being one of them and it says it all — "Worth Remembering" —
no one forgets their family. For those who are serving we need to watch over the
homefront. For those who have served - the younger need to take care and
preserve the history of the older and as we get older we must find those younger to
preserve our history.
I am proud to be an American, I am proud to be Veteran, God Bless America.
