City of College Station Government
The City of College Station was incorporated
in 1938. It is a home -rule city and operates
under the Council- Manager form of govern-
ment. The Mayor and six Council Members
are elected at- large, by place, in city-wide
elections for three -year terms.
Meetings
City Council meetings normally occur on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month at
College Station City Hall. Council meetings are open to the public and broadcast live on
Channel 19 and www.cstx.gov.

Dear College Station Residents:
It certainly does not seem like it, but here we are once again sharing with you the latest edition
of the 2010 College Station Parks and Recreation Department Calendar. While it is also avail -
able to you electronically on the web at www.cstx.gov, this hard copy has a habit of finding its
way into many houses to hang on the wall or the refrigerator. No matter where you put it, we
hope that it will continue to be of value to you and your family.
Our parks and recreation staff has made every effort to include in this 2010 calendar as much information and as many
ideas as possible to help you decide what essential recreation services you want to participate in for yourself, your family
and your friends. This calendar is a core product of the many parks and recreation traditions that the department has estab-
lished over the years thanks to your continued support. We are truly committed to meeting or exceeding your expectations
for service and a healthy life style.
This past year and the coming years will be challenging for our department to keep current with the varied demands for
service delivery. We trust that this calendar will serve as a guide to help meet at least some of your demands for parks
and recreation service this coming year. We respectfully request your input in seeking ways to incrementally improve this
calendar as well as our service to you.
One of the areas that we are doing our best to make a difference in, is the provision of health and wellness opportunities.
This includes structured or self -paced physical activities. You can choose for yourself the pace and the type of physical
options that are available at either a neighborhood park close to your home or at one of our many athletic complexes that
are located throughout the city. The important thing to realize is that you determine what will work the best to suit your
individual health and wellness needs. The parks and recreation facilities inventory that is located on the back cover of the
calendar can be a good starting point in identifying these facility choices.
We have opened for business this past year our new Memorial Cemetery of College Station that includes a very special Ag-
gie Field of Honor section. The cemetery is located across'the highway from Easterwood Airport. Its design and construc-
tion are oriented toward the creation of a highly desired final resting place for Texas A &M students, former students, faculty,
staff, their families and friends of Texas A &M University. For further information, please visit www.fieldofhonor.cstx.gov.
Another first for the department this past year was breaking 1,000 in the monthly number of Kids Klub participants. This
came about through the expansion of the Kids Klub program at the new Creek View Elementary School located on Eagle
Drive. We now serve over 1,020 students at nine different school locations with this very popular afterschool recreation
program.
In our attempts to include the atypical family members in outdoor recreational activities, we now have a second dog park
facility that was opened for business also this past year. University Park and its dog park are located in north College Station
off of Park Street. The dog park includes two separate areas for the dogs to be "off - leash" so they can exercise and social -
ize with other dogs. Each area also includes its own "water feature" for those dogs that are comfortable in the water. Even
if you do not have a dog to take to the park, the park has many other amenities to take advantage of that do not require a
dog.
Finally, I would be remiss if I did not take this time to say thank you to our parks and recreation staff and the many other
City of College Station professionals that help the department to provide the best in recreation programs and facilities.
They have used their many talents and skills to develop a wide variety of programs and facilities as needed to serve such
a diverse population here in College Station. It is an honor and a privilege to work every day with such professionals! If
there is anything that you need when you are participating in our parks and recreation system please do not hesitate to ask
any of our department staff for assistance. They will be more than happy to assist you whenever possible. Keep us in mind
as your preferred provider of choice for your recreation, leisure and educational opportunities. Please enjoy your parks
and recreation system!

and operations of all parks within the City
of College Station. This board also gives
advice regarding the establishment and
operation of recreation programs conducted
by the City of College Station for its citizens.

responsibilities as may be assigned by City

Delmer Charanza
June 13, 1944 - February 8, 2009
Delmer Charanza, a member of
the College Station Parks and Rec-
reation Department family, lost his
battle with cancer in 2009. He
served the City of College Station
for 23 years as the first Cemetery
Sexton until he retired in 2006.
Delmer was always a happy, fun
loving individual who also was
very compassionate and loving to-
ward his customers and co- workers.
He took pride in the service that he
was offering the citizens of College
Station and treated everyone with
respect and courtesy. We miss him
very much.

BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB MEMBERSHIP: Programs and activities are
offered in the core areas of character and leadership development,
education and career development, the arts, sports, fitness, recreation,
health and life skills. Membership is required for $20.00 for the school
year (9 MONTHS). Summer rates are $50.00. Families with more than
three children are eligible for a family rate and discounts. Low - income
families are eligible for a special rate. After school hours are: Monday
- Friday from 3 pm - 6:30 pm and Saturday (Special Programs). Summer
program hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday - Friday.
Workshops: Workshops are scheduled in a collaborative effort with
many involved agencies to meet the educational and informational
needs of our customers during the calendar year.
COMPETITIVE BASKETBALL & CO -REC VOLLEYBALL: Lincoln Rec-
reation Center offers community and spring/summer tournaments, and
has the capacity for league play.
GYM RESERVATIONS: The gym can be reserved for team play, special
events, and community functions. Reservations must be made by 4
um. 48 hours udialmAo_ the .referv
$40.00 per hour and all day use for $250.00. Rental fees are subject to
a $20.00 after -hour charge and set -up /janitorial fees. Visit www.cstx.
gov for updated fees.
COMMUNITY ROOM RENTAL: Reservations can be made for the
Community Room by paying a $100.00 deposit and a $30.00/hour
rental fee with a 3 hour maximum. A kitchen is available with the room
rental for an additional $25.00 fee. Other small rooms may be avail-
able. Fees are subject to before and after hour charges, plus set up and
janitorial fees.
COMPUTER LAB: Supervised after - school tutorial program for school
aged children 6 - 18. This is a collaborative effort between TAMU, Col-
lege Station Parks and Recreation Department, and College Station In-
dependent School District to meet the computer needs of disadvantaged
youth. With the emphasis on reading and accelerated math instruction
and T.A.K.S. preparation, these students will have access to the CSISD
web site, College Station Library references, and the Internet. Lab hours
are M - F, 3 pm, Saturday Noon - 5 pm, and Sunday as needed. Trans-
portation is available to the lab from A &M Consolidated Middle School,
Oakwood Intermediate, College Hills, South Knoll, and Rock Prairie
Elementary. CSISD bus transportation is available from Cypress Grove
Intermediate, College Station Middle School, Pebble Creek, Southwood
and Forest Ridge Elementary schools.
SENIOR CITIZENS (BVCAA YEARS FOR PROFIT): This program at the
Lincoln Center provides nutritious meals for all persons 55 years of age
and older. Daily programs such as arts and crafts, dominoes, bingo,
field trips; and computer classes are offered. Call 979 - 764 -3750 for
more information.

FACILITY MEMBERSHIP PASS: Annual adult membership is $45.00
FITNESS PASS: Access to the fitness room with assorted Cybex exercise
equipment. Youth 17 and under as well as adults 18 and older must use
a regular membership pass.
REFERRALS: Referrals are made to Family Outreach, Planned Parent-
hood, BVCAA, BVCASA, Brazos Workforce, Unity Partners, Brazos
Transit, MHMR, HUD, DHS, VIS and IRS assistance. G.E.D. Testing of-
fered, TBA Twin City Mission Star Program offers parenting classes as
requested.
IMMUNIZATION: Brazos County Health Department offers immuni-
zations every Tuesday from 9:00 am - 1:00 pm. For more information

(WIC) WOMEN, INFANTS AND CHILDREN: Services are available at
Lincoln Center on Tuesdays and Thursdays from_$:30 am — a.00 nm
BRAZOS FOOD BANK: Case Management, intake and referral ev-
ery Monday from 9:00 am to 11:00 am. For an appointment, call
979 - 779 -3663.
COMMUNITY SERVICE AND VOLUNTEER SITE: Court- appointed
community service hours available M - F, 8 am - 2 pm, 6 pm - 9 pm,
and weekends. Weekly orientation is mandatory before serving hours.
Volunteer service time is available as well. Orientation date for volun-
teers is every Monday at 5:30 pm. Background checks are necessary.
ADULT PROBATION: Brazos Valley Adult Probation meets on Tuesday
and Thursday from 1 pm to 5 pm.
ANNUAL EVENTS: MLK Celebration, African American History Month,
Easter Egg Hunt, Juneteenth Celebration, Freedom Walk, October Fall -
fest, National Day for Kids Celebration, and Kwanzaa Celebration.
THE LINCOLN FORMER STUDENTS ASSOCIATION: The former stu-
dents meet every second Monday of the month, at 7:00 pm. Visitors are

The Historic Preservation Committee was charged by the City Council
in 2002 to "aid in the collection and preservation of the history of the
City of College Station and its environs, and to provide for the educa-
tion of its citizens..." The Heritage Programs office, in order to carry out
its charge, ministers to the Historic Preservation Committee, manages
the Project HOLD historic online library database, hosts the Exploring

The College Station Conference Center is a
wonderful facility for your next seminar, work-
shop, conference, retirement function, holiday
party, career fair, staff retreat, rehearsal dinner,
shower, wedding, reception, family reunion or
trade show exhibit.
The Conference Center has seven rooms that
can hold 12 to 420 people, plus a large cater-
ing kitchen with ice machine, refrigerator, two
microwaves and a conventional oven. In ad-
dition, there is a beautiful deck and patio areas. The Conference Center
provides a variety of amenities that include audio - visual equipment,
internet access, flip charts, tables, disco ball, piano, wedding trellis,
lattice screens, and much more. The Conference Center has friendly,
experienced staff to help make your event a success.

The Exit Teen Center is a great after - school place
for 6th - 9th graders. The Teen Advisory Board
was involved throughout the design and development of this building
that includes a club style room, an all- purpose room and a computer lab.
The construction was completed in September of 1999.
TEEN CENTER ACTIVITIES: Come in after school or on a summer day to
play Xbox, chat online, listen to music, play dodgeball or just hang out
with your friends. Also you can participate in Xtreme Exit, Field Trips,
Teen Talk, Girls /Boys Night Out, Saturday Sports and so much more!
RENTAL: Rent a room or the entire building for your next meeting,
party, or reunion! The EXIT Teen Center is a great indoor facility within
Southwood Athletic Park.

*The Pavilion Party allows you to provide your own food, cake and
beverages while we reserve tables for your party at the College Station
pool of your choice.
*Theme parties provide an opportunity for you to relax and let us take
care of the party preparations. The party package includes plates, cups,
napkins, forks, cake, lemonade, and admission to the pool. Theme
parties may also be catered with your choice of different kinds of
pizza.
*After Hours Parties are ideal for group rentals such as family parties,

Amphitheater accommodates 300
- 7,500 people and prices range

Park Rules
*Advertising in City parks is prohibited.
• Park curfew for neighborhood parks is 11:00 pm - 5:00 am.
• Park curfew for community parks is 1:00 am - 5:00 am.
• Dogs must be on leashes at all times, except in Steeplechase
& Lick Creek Parks with sound command.
•AII wildlife in City parks is protected.
• It is unlawful to litter in City parks.
• It is unlawful to cut or destroy vegetation.
•AII vehicles must park in designated areas.
• It is unlawful to swim in park ponds.
•AII firearms, airguns, crossbows, bows & arrows are prohibited.
•AII vendors must have an approved permit.
• No campfires without prior approval.
• No dunking booths or livestock without prior approval.
*Tents must be pre- approved and location coordinated with
Parks Operations staff.
• No off -road vehicles are allowed in City parks.
• Golfing or (practice) driving of golf balls in parks is prohibited.
• Please obey all "FIELDS CLOSED" signs.
•Athletic fields must be reserved separately from pavilion rentals
• No glass containers in City parks.

THE GREEN ROOM:
Great setting for formal dinners, banquets, and cocktail parties.
Banquet seating can accommodate up to 40 people, while a standing

by his peers for his dependability,

T.A.A.F. SERVICE AWARD
Geraldine "Geri" Marsh, Athletic Supervi-
sor, was honored with the 2009 Texas Am-
ateur Athletic Federation (T.A.A.F.) Service
Award. The Service Award is granted to
those individuals, who are professionals in
the field and have exhibited dedicated ser-
vice by showing a willingness to upgrade
and promote T.A.A.F. activities. In Marsh's
tenure with the City of College Station, she
has served as a TAAF Regional Director, Executive Board Member, Sports
Commissioner, Winter Games of Texas Liaison, and served on numerous
other committees.
2009 AQUATIC
EXCELLENCE AWARD
Vera Vowell Solis, Aquatic Supervisor,
was recognized at a City Council Meeting
for receiving the Lifetime Achievement for
Aquatic Excellence Award, given at the
2009 International Aquatic Safety School
graduation banquet in 2009.
As part of the 25th Anniversary Celebration
of that organization, this award was created
to honor distinguished members of the Ellis
and Associates family on an annual basis.
This award recognizes Vera for her years as a devoted public servant, a
leader in the aquatic industry, outstanding safety educator and mentor, and
her extreme dedication to aquatic excellence.

The City of College Station has been awarded the 2009 Texas Public Pool
Council (TPPC) Agency of the Year Class 2 Award. The Texas Public Pool
Council has a long history of recognizing.excellence in the aquatics indus-
try. "College Station Parks and Recreation has set the standard by which
others look to in teaching swimming lessons, providing excellent aquatic fa-
cilities and creative programming," said Charles Logan, Past President and
Chair of the Awards Committee for TPPC.
