Anderson's Work
June 28, 1971 should be a day of mourning for all
Texans who believe in majority rule. That day a
piddling, tiny fraction of less than one percent of the
citizens of College Station finally achieved the
resignation of our progressive, dedicated Mayor D.
A. (Andy) Anderson. In addition to the effect on our
City Council and School Board, local* government
units state -wide have been sabotaged by the same
group.
Mike Mistovich, reporting over radio KORA this
morning, well expressed the feeling of our com-
munity whep he spoke of the debt our City owes
Mayor Anderson. He said the City has made more
progress under "Andy's" leadership than in all the
previous years of its existence.
Recruitment of a man of Anderson's dedication
and ability will be difficult in view of present law. It
must be done. Furthermore, the intent of the law
must be clarified to avoid continued disen-
franchisement of those who, without hope of per-
sonal gain or compensation, are willing to assume
the burdens of local government in communities
such as ours.
