Most property owners ap-
pearing before the Brazos
County Board of equalizations
this morning left satisfied.
Some wanted to make sure
that their neighbor's property
had indeed been raised the
same as their own. County
Judge W. R. (Bill) Vance and
the commissioners assured
them that all property outside
the bypasses had been put on
the tax rolls at a minimum of
$18 an acre in addition to 20
per cent for the improvements.
Tax Assessor - Collector
R a y m o n d Buchanan noted
the tax rate has been
lowered 10 cents this year,
five cents for the state„ two for
the county and three for roads.
General Telephone Co. was
the largest taxpayer to appear
during the morning. The
representative told the board he
didn't mind taxes being raised,
but the company's had been
raised too much.
He noted telephone company
property at Texas A &M
University had been raised from
$26,000 to $35,000. Vance asked
him if the exchange hadn't been
put in since last year.
The telephaq representative
told hi it was in the asement

He said it should still be
based at $26,000. On the
property in Bryan, the
representative said $1.6 million
would be a fair rendition rather
than the $1.75 million rendition
by the county.
The company had rendered
the property for $1.55 million.
Vance said the board would
act on the company's request
later and send them a notice
once a decision is reached.
Otis McDonald complained his
valuation increase from $2,500
to $25,000 was too much. He
asked if $10,000 to $12,000
wouldn't be a more reasonable
figure.
The board settled on $12,500
and said they would remember
him again next year.
The board lowered the
valuation on two houses and lots
for Marvin Jeske from $4,500
to $2,400 after Jeske told
members he "was robbed
