NEW COLLEGE STATION CITY OFFICIALS SWORN IN

CS Officials Sworn In
J. D. Lindsay and C. A. Bonnen were
sworn in as College Station councilmen
Wednesday afternoon by Mayor D. A.
(Andy) Anderson in special council
meeting.
Prior to the swearing in, the votes in the
Tuesday eleietion were canvassed and
declared official. Lindsay, of 1029 Walton
Drive, a retired head of the Department
of Chemical Engineering at Texas A&M
University defeated Eldon W. Oxley, a
businessman, in the Place 4 contest.
BONNEN, OF 201 LEE, a retired
professor of agricultural economics at
Texas A &M, defeated Ed Miller of 504
Guernsey, owner and operator of Bi -City
Ink & Hobbi- Kraft, in the Place 6 rade.
Official returns showed Lindsay
receiving a total of 568 votes, while Oxley
got 90 votes. Bonnen received 526 votes
and Miller got 129.
By wards, Lindsay received 323 in Ward
1, 232 in Ward 2 and 13 in Ward 3; Oxley
got 57, 26 and 7; Bonnen tallied 298, 215,
and 13 and Miller got 81, 41 and 7.
After the two were sworn in at the 15-
minute meeting, Anderson teased the new
city officials.
"It's officially over and you're on the
payroll," Anderson laughed.
THE SPECIAL election was held to fill
two places vacated by Cecil B. Rayan and
C. H. Randsdell when they resigned after
discovering they would have to forgo their
state salaries from Texas A &M
University if they continued to hold an
elective office.
The two were defendants in a suit
questioning their rights to hold an elective
office and be paid by the state at the same
time.
