HomeMy WebLinkAbout1970 CS Granted $332,500 for Water Sewer ProjectSEWER PROJECT BY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ADMIN. According to Mayor D.A. Anderson, the City of College Station, the Economic Development Admin- istration has approved a 50 grant in the amount of $332,500 to the City of College Station for Water and Sewer Improvements. The project was developed in cooperation with the Brazos Valley Development Council and was eligible for approval because of the designation of Bryan and Coliege Station as the growth center of the seven county region served by the BVDC. Mayor Anderson stated that the project was based on the impact created by the growth of Texas A &M University and the impact of TEXAS International Speedway, Ocean ography International Corporation, two new proposed regional shopping centers, expansion of Meiller Re- search Incorporated, A &M Consolidated Schools, Holicks Inc, and the establishment of the new Veter- inary Diagnostic Laboratory, USDA National Pathol- ogy Laboratory, and the USDA Toxicology and Ent- omology Research Laboratory. City Manager, Ran Boswell stated that the project will include new water mains, a new sewage treatment plant, and sewage collector lines. Mr. Boswell praised the efforts of A.C. Johnson, Assistant Dir- ector and Planner of the Council in development of the project application. Glenn J. Cook, Executive Director of the Brazos Valley Develpoment Council, reported that this pro- ject marks the seventh Public Works project approved by the Economic Development Administration through the BVDC since 1967. Other public works projects approved in the growth center area grant for the new St. Joseph Hospital in the amount of $1,000,000 and a grant of $55,100 for water improvements in the City of Bryan. Marvin W. Hagemeier, Economic Development Specialist with the Economic Development Admin- istration, here to attend the Brazos County Indus- trial Conference, stated taht the project was made Possible because of the foresight of the leadership of Brazos and other six counties forming a develop - ment organization such as the BVDC and establish- ing Bryan - College Station as the growth center. He further commented that the Council and the Economoc Development Administration received excellent co- operation from the City of College Station, and that EDA's investment in the City's project was well worthwhile in that this project would perpetuate the economic growth of the area. U.S. Senators, John Tower, Ralph Yarborough and U.S. Congressman Olin E. Teague notified the City of College Station of the projects approval Tuesday, April 27th. 'i COLLEGE STATION I GRANTED
