B -CS MAYORS KICK OFF UNITED CAMPAIGN WEEK
Jerome (Jack) Zubik of Bryan and D. A. (Andy) Anderson of College Station Sign Proclamations
Today Marks Start
For United Drives
Volunteer workers in Bryan
and College Station today begin
the battle against two of man's
most limited assets —time and
money —with high hopes of
beating both to raise nearly
r for charity within a
week.
I n simultaneous efforts,
climaxing next Sunday, the
Bryan United Fund, chaired by
Toe G. Hanover, is pushing
toward a $101,000` goal and the
College Station United Chest,
headed by Charlie Johnson,
hopes to amass $29,975.
Both drives will be helped by
a similar week -long effort at
Texas A &M University headed
by Dr. John M. Prescott.
Volunteers for both agencies
` will be knocking on doors and
asking the same thing: Please
contribute a single day's pay
to charity.
This will be the first time
both drives will be conducted
at the same time and the first
time the campaigns will be
confined to a single week. Last
year, the drives were held
separately and lasted for
several months.
To remind Bryan residents to
contribute, and to mark the
progress in the UP Drive, a
fund thermometer has been set
downtown at Bryan and 25th
Streets. The effort -is also being
mentioned in church bulletins.
In both cities, businesses with
marquees will display remin-
ders.
Contributions may be made at
any bank, or in Bryan, at the
OF office at 1706 S. Texas in
the Sunnyland shopping center.
Publicity chairmen for the
drives, B.A. Erwin and J.E.
Roberts, have urged con-
tributors not to wait for
volunteer workers to contact
them.
"We need every possible
contribution if we are to meet
our budgets," Erwin said.
At A &M, donors may say on
their pledge cards - whether they
want their contributions to go
to the Bryan or College Station
drive. If no designation is made,
Dr. Prescott s a i d, the
donation will be split between
the two drives in proportion to
their budgets.
