Both Bryan and College.Station will be ( calling the day "Honor America Day." The "Honor America" theme is based on a proclamation signed by College Station Mayor D. A. Anderson and Bryan ( Mayor J. A. Skrivanek urging "all citizens to give due recognition to the honorable occasion by the flying of the American flag and encouraging a ( rededication to the principles which made cur nation great. "WE THE PEOPLE of these United Cates are indebted to our Founding athers for the wisdom and foresight they isplayed in laying the foundation for our ation and the fruits we have enjoyed," ie proclamation states. "Our nation is faced with its greatest hallenge by those who would desecrate ur flag and sap our country's moral trength." The largest of the planned celebrations vill be that in College Station Monday, ponsored by the College Station 3ecreation Council, Lions Club and Earl 3raham post of the American Legion. The groups plan games for children and )arents, an Air Force band performance and an inspirational speech, all beginning at 5:30 p.m. on the A&M Consolidated football field. THE BAND PERFORMANCE will be by the 60 -piece Band of the West from Lackland Military Training Center and will begin at approximately 7:30 p.m. Following the performance, the Rev. H. Bailey Stone of First Baptist Church in Bryan will speak briefly. There also will be a fireworks display. Soft drinks and hotdogs will be sold at the field, although anyone who wants to may bring his own food, according to Bill Scott, activities co -ordinator. A Bryan, the Parks and Recreation Department will be sponsoring a men's invitational .fast -pitch solftball tour- nament July 2, 3, and 4 at Haswell Field. The first games will begin at 6:30 p.m. Friday night, second at S a.m. Saturday, and the play offs Sunday. The time for the Sunday game has not yet been set. ALL FINANCIAL offices, banks, post offices, schools and businesses in the downtown merchants association in Bryan will• be closed Monday. Driver training classes, however, will meet Monday. In Navasota, the celebration will be on the grounds of the new Schult Mobile Home factory July 5, for the ground• breaking of the factory site. Preston Smith wr1 speak at the ceremony which begins at 4:30, and officials promise "ice cold watermelon" afterward. In Bremond, plans are under way for a barbecue and other activities during the day and a dance the night of the Fourth at the St. Mary's School grounds. "Dinner and supper with trimmings will be served and barbecue will be available at bar• becue pits," said William Bielamowicz publicity chairman. "Games, en. tertainment and prizes will be the feature for the day." Activities are open to the public. THE MADISON COUNTY Cemetary Association will meet Sunday at Willowhole Cemetary. W. E. Rogers of North Zulch will speak from 11:30 a.m. to noon. and Herman Hicks, also of North Zulch, will be master of ceremonies for the afternoon songfest. Activities are planned around a basket lunch picnic. Hearne, Caldwell and Somerville report no official celebration plans, although A. G. Wilhelm, Somerville Sheriff, said, "We always have a big crowd here over the Fourth, and with it falling on Sunday this year I expect as big or bigger a 'crowd than we've ever had before." The mayors jointly proclaimed today as "Honor America Day" and are asking citizens to fly their American flags and en- couraging a rededication to the principles which made our nation great.
