GALVESTON — Paul R. Kra-
mer, director, Texas Forest
Service, College Station, today
was named Outstanding Forest-
er of Texas by the Society of
American Foresters, Gulf
States Section, at its annual
meeting in Galveston.
The Gulf States Section in-
cludes more than a thousand
professional foresters from
Mississippi, Louisiana, and
Texas who annually select an
outstanding member from each
state for the award. Lastyear's
honoree, D. A. "Andy" Ander-
son, presented a plaque to Kra -
mer, recognizing his superior
service and professional
achievements in forestry.
Kramer holds a degree from
Washington S t a t e University,
and did graduate work at the
School of Forestry of Yale. He
began his forestry career as a
forest management specialist
with the Tennessee Valley
Authority in 1941.
He was employed by the Tex-
as Forest Service in 1949 as a
wood technologist, later becom-
ing Head, Forest Products Lab-
oratory, Lufkin, before assum-
ing his present position.
Kramer is a charter member
of the Mid -South Section of the
Forest Products Research So-
ciety, a member of the National
Forest Products Research So-
ciety, the Society of Wood Sci-
ence and Technology, Technical
Association of the Pulp and
Paper Industry, and has served
as a director of the Texas For-
estry Association.
He was chairman of the South-
ern Group of State Foresters.
He is currently serving as a
member of the Executive Com-
mittee of the National Associa-
tion of State Foresters.
