NYC Program
OK'd b
y Council
Six disadvantaged youth will
be hired as Neighborhood Youth
Corps trainees under a program
approved last night by College
Station city councilmen.
John H. McLaren, NYC co-
ordinator for an eight- county
area, explained the trainees
must be teen -aged high school
students. He said they will work
for $1.45 per hour for 26 hours
per week for 10 weeks.
M c L a r e n explained the
purpose of the program is to
teach the trainees a usable skill .
He reported 27 trainees are
working out of Bryan and said
he had five slots at Texas A &M
University.
The council also approved a
request for rezoning of an 11•
acre tract on Krenek -Tap Road
from first dwelling house
district to mobile home park
district.
The rezoned tract lies east of
a mobile home park owned by
Allen R. Swoboda of 1216 Glade,
who requested the zoning
change.
Councilmen debated the
ability of Krenek -Tap Road to
handle the increased traffic
which will result from
development of the new park
before they gave approval for
the zoning change.
S w o b o d a' s request was
granted after he agreed to pave
the road and allow the city to
reimburse him as other
property owners paid their
assessments if he is un-
successful in a current attempt
to get the owners to petition
the city for paving.
In other business, the council:
— Ordered improvement of
Luther Street from FM 2154 to
Highland Street.
— Tabled a request from the
Koppe Water Supply Corp. for
the purchase of water.
