As required by state law, the committee circulated a petition and
presented it to Judge John Ferguson on June 2, requesting an election.
The petition had 165 signatures and a map of the proposed city.

In May 1937,, Franklin Delano Roosevelt visited Texas A&M and spoke to
about 20,000 people at Kyle Field, inspiring many to serve the country
in a time of great need. More than 20,000 Texas Aggies served in World
War II, about 14,000 as commissioned officers.
