Pumpers
Are White
Instead of the traditional red
ire trucks, College Station's
two new 750 gallon per minute
pumpers are white.
City Manager Ran Boswell
said the trucks were painted
white because they are easier to
see at night.
"More and more cities are
using white fire vehicles; they
are easier to see at night. We
hope this may prevent acci-
dents with fire vehicles," Bos-
ell said.
The fire trucks were ordered
by the city one year ago at a
cost of approximately $69.000.
They were manufactured in El-
ira, New York, by the Amer -
n La France Co.
The trucks are temporarily
stored in the new fire station
on State Highway 6.
Mayor D. A. (Andy) Ander-
son said that except for a serv-
ice check -out to see that they
are in good operating condi -'
tion, they can be ut into serv-
ice almost immediately. He
ded that radios will be in.
lled in the units within the
eek.
Anderson said that some fur -
nishings for the new fire sta-
tion will be installed within the
next three weeks. He added that
additional needs will gradually
be met as funds become avail-
able.
