tensive therapy to his left arm,
but doctors -there won't know the
exact nature of the Mayor's ail- j
ment before Thursday.
"There was considerable pain
in my left arm which finally,
caused me to come up here,"
Anderson said today. "It doesn't
seem to be anything serious, but
it is painfall."
The mayor's wife, Amy, was I
in Dallas today visiting her hus•
band.

what doctors in Dallas' Baylor,
Medical Center diagnosed as a
ruptured spinal disc and depres-
sion of a nerve, which may be
deteriorated.
This is apparently what has'
caused the pain in Mayor Ander-
son's left arm. Traction and in-
tensive therapy over the last
week and a half has failed to
acheive relief, the Mayor's wife
said Monday.

(Andy) Anderson is "resting
comfortably" today after ur-
gery Tuesday to correct a
ruptured spinal disc which
may have been affecting a
nerve.
The mayor had complained
of severe pain in his left arm,
finally went to Dallas for in-
tensive therapy and traction
treatments. He entered the
center Thursday, Aug. 3..
Ten days to two weeks are
required for recovery from
the surgery, doctors said. But
it was not known today when
the mayor would return
home.

mayor's wife said today.
Mrs. Anderson said her hus-
band would likely be released
ftom the hospital today, but l
+,. would remain in Dallas until
Wednesday for periodic check-
ups, A 30 -day recovery period
i$ expected once the mayor re-
turns home.
The mayor suffered a cracked
spinal disc which had slipped
out of place and collected cal -
c i u m causing pressure on a
nerve to Anderson's left arm.
Severe pain in the arm could I
not be relieved by traction or
therapy. An eight inch portion
of the spine from the hairline',
down was affected by surgery
lasting some three hours, Mrs.
Anderson said.
"The mayor is much better
now," Amy Anderson said.
"There is still a soreness in the
arm and shoulder, and in the
surgery area. Andy will rest at
home for about a month when
we return Thursday."
Mayor Anderson entered the
Baylor Medical Center " three,
weeks ago, underwent his sur-
gery last week. Mrs. Anderson
has remained in Dallas during
her husband's treatment, stay-
ing with a daughter, Mrs. Jos-
eph Di ckey, who lives in Dallas.
