HomeMy WebLinkAbout1970 Dozier Says Journey Not Worthwhilet ozier Says tourney No' Worthwhile By FRANK GRIFFIS Eagle Staff Writer College Station City Coun= . _ . cilman James H. Dozier said Friday he does not think it is worthwhile for the city to send a delegation of proponents of the Millican Dam proposal to Washington, D. C., because nothing is being accomplished. Dozier made the state e' during his report of the ei m g h man delegation's findings. "We met with the House an Senate and got basically th same allocations from o elected officials as we did la year," Dozier said. "No on could explain why $50,000 is ` the allocation for Millican Dam and $100,000 for Navasota No,' 2." Dozier said that for the first time a group of ecologists ap- peared before the Senate and voiced opposition against any kind of structure on the 6 Navasota River. "Washington is conscious of ecology. It is a voting issue, no doubt about it;" Dozier said. He added that Sens. John Tower and Ralph Yarborough sent their written support for the site, but couldn't understand why twice as many funds were requested for Navasota No. 2 as were requested for Millican. ` ` We came away with basically the same feeling as last year -that we aren't ac- c o in p I i s hing anything and Millican Reservoir is not any nearer completion. I don't think it is worth while for the city of College Station to send a d a: e g a t ion to Washington, D.C.," Dozier said. "We send eight persons year after year, the opposition sends two, and they build nothing," Dozier said. He added that the only person from the delegation I is allowed to speak is the county judge. "We stand up, are introduced, we bow and scrape, back out, nd get the feeling they don't give a damn whether you are there or not. I am not highly t Optimistic of Millican's chances foar r appropriating more than 0,000." Dozier said. He added that last year all the funds for the projects ere diverted to the Vietnam by President Nixon and that he feels this will happen again this year. We ran around like a bunch Wfioponents beavers. I think the of Millican Dam ne• °.d to take a different ap. proach and tack to this," Dozier said. Mayor D. A. (Andy) Anderson said he would make a statement, but he didn't want it released to the public. "We all know what our major bottleneck has been in the past," Anderson added.
