Others in attendendance were Fe Moore, Crestview; Flossie Hall, AARP #515; Sandra Sledge, Sherwood; Earline Peters, Brazos Valley Geriatric Center; Charles Lewis, NARFE; Roger Jackson, AARP #2594; Topaz Hughes, Brazos County Community Council; Clifford M. Simmang, TAMU Retirees; and Shirley Plapp, Retired Senior Volunteer Pro- gram. Dale reported that he would welcome the use of his facilities free of charge by an organiz- ed group of senior citizens as frequently as weekly. Although transportation would pre- sent some barriers to th use of Pooh's Park, the costs of insurance would prohibit Dale's providing bus transportation. The facilities available at Pooh's Park include miniature golf, bat machines, skating, bowl- ing. In addition, the physical layout of the building would lend itself to activities such as dancing, films, arts and crafts, discussion groups, etc. Dale announced that he will not be able to arrange programs and activities. Plapp indicated that RSVP would assist in creating a committee to arrange activities on .a monthly basis. The first senior citizen activities at Pooh's Park were scheduled for March 18, 1981, from 9:30 am to noon. The meeting adjourned at 11:15 am. Others in attendance were Andy Anderson, John Gochenaur, Carolyn Hall, Charles Lewis, and Janie Velasquez. Minutes from the March 26 meeting were approved. Following a lenthy discussion of the April 15 activity period at Poohs Park, members agreed that the approximate 45 participants attending were not an adequate number to justify continued free monthly use of Pooh's Park. A consensus was reached that the May and June activity periods will be planned and he "ld but continued future use may not be feasible. Plapp announced that the Eagle plans a picture story on Sunday, May 24, to feature the pictures they took at Poohs Park on April 15. Since this schedule is untimely for the May 20 activity period at Poohs Park, Plapp agreed to ask the Eagle to reschedule the picture story for June 14. While the workload of Committee Members is not large, fuller parti- cipation of members in the planning of Pooh`s Park activities is need- ed. The April 15th activity period at Poohs Park was not nearly as well attended as Committee members had projected. About 45 persons attend- ed as compared tc =about 55 persons at the first activity period in March. Committee members are concerned about the feasibility of continuing the activities after June 17 if the attendance does not increase. The costs of keeping the facility open free of charge are considerable. Don Dale(Pooh Park owner) has traded off financial gain for the rec- reational enrichment of older citizens in Brazos County. Legs all get behind him and work a little harder to ensure the continuation of the free monthly activity period at Park! Specifically, we need you to contact your church to request an announce- ment in the Sunday bullentin for May 17 regarding the free activity period at Poohs Park on May 20th, 9:30- 11:30am. Members attending the April 23rd Committee meeting have agreed to contact Faith United Church, First Presbyterian Church, First Methodist Church(Bryan), St. Josephs Church, St. Thomas Episcopal Church, and the Unitarian Fellowship of College Station. I would certainly appreciate your assistance in this matter. Please personally invite you friends and neighbors of retirement age to attend on May 20 at Pooh's Park. A half hour program featuring (0ter Blinkey the Clown and a sing -a -long to the music of George Winstein and Gene Adam will precede the recreational activities. Remember, May is Older Americans Month. Come and have a good time in the celebrations! I also urge you to attend the next Coordinating Committee meeting on May 21, 1981, at the RSVP Office(see enclosed agenda and minutes of April meeting). I'll look forward to seeing you. EVERYBODY was sure that SOMEBODY would do it. ANYONE could have done it. SOMEBODY got angry about that, because it was EVERYBODY'S job. EVERYBODY thought ANYBODY could do it, but NOBODY realized that EVERYBODY wouldn't do it.
