HomeMy WebLinkAbout1970 Fire Prevention WeekFire Preve f on Mayor D. A. (Andy) An- derson has officially pro- claimed the week of Oct. 4 thru Oct. 9 as Fire Pre- vention Week in College Station. Fire Prevention Week is in Memory of the great Chicago fire, where there was such a loss of pro- perty and life. Fire preven- tion week is to remind the people to check for fire hazards, in their homes, schools and business'. A reminder that even in this day Fire is and can be a real looser; in loss of life, money and jobs. The College Station City Fire Chief, E. F. (Woody) Sevison, has distributed over 8000 pieces of litera- ture to the business and Week throughout the schools. All week long he will be con- ducting visual aid pro- grams for all College Sta- tion Schools, nursery schools, day nurseries. Any civic clubs who would like to have the Fire Chief appear before their group are asked to please con- tact him at the New City Fire Station, or 846 -8280 for an appointment. Scheduled for events during this special week are as follows: Miss Flame Contest Tuesday, Oct. 6; Visual Aid Programs, Mon. thru Friday; Poster con- test in all schools and o- pen house at the new Fire Station on Hwy. 6 and Gil - crest from 3 p.m. till 5 p.m. on Sat. Oct. 9. The Miss Flame Contest is an annual event conducted by the College Station Fire Department. More entries are needed at this time, to be entered the girls must be a Con- solidated Student in High School. Miss Flame is not a time consuming honor. Miss Flame will be the Hostess for the open house at the first station and she will be ask to ride on the float in the Christmas pa- rade. At any time Miss Flame cannot be there then the first or second runner up would be there to take her place. The first en- tries are Mary Miller, dau- ghter of Marshal Miller, 511 Jersey; Cathy Randall, daughter of John Randall, Oak Hills Addition; Bev- erly Crawford, daughter of Ben Crawford, No. 15, Norton St. The public is invited to the actual judg- ing which will take place at the new City Hall on Tuesday, Oct. 6 at 7 :30 p.m. Gifts have been do- nated for Miss Flame and her runner -ups from the various business' in Col- lege Station.
