Construction on the main struc-
ture in the proposed Brazos County.
Park will begin this August and will
be completed by August next year.
That building, or multi -use
facility, as it's called, will contain a
lecture room, rehearsal hall, two
banquet- meeting rooms that can be
made into one large room, exhibit
areas and workshop studios.
Bids on the project will be ad-
vertised in mid -June and awarded in
mid -July. The floor space on this
multi -use facility, including halls

awarded to Bryan Construction Co.
for a picnic shelter, parking lot,
restrooms, electric, sewer and
water lines. That contract also in-

as signs and garbage receptacles.
The work on the shelter has not
begun.
—A fourth contract has also been
entered with an architect for the
multi -use facility, but there is no
line -item cost on this. Jack Cumpton

and storage areas will be about
38,900 square feet, architect Jack
Cumpton said.
This will be the main attraction at
the 50 acre park site belonging to the
county. The land is located near the
extension of Briarcrest Drive and
the East Bypass.
Originally a building was en-
visioned by the County com-
missioners which would have con-

animal displays, but this idea was
scrapped due to the problem of using
the facility as a banquet facility one
day, and a barn, the next.

The architect also receives 5.9 per
cent of the construction contracts for
that facility.
The $86,000 for the picnic shelter,
etc., will be raised from Brazos
County funds, federal Community
Development funds to the county
and Bureau of Outdoor Recreation
funds.
This contract called for con-
struction to begin Nov. 1, 1976 with
180 calendar days for actual con-
struction. That means that com-
pletion date for the shelter and other
projects in this contract should have
been by about May 1. The penalty for
non - completion is $25 per day after
middle of last year with the approval
of a $616,000 federal Economic
Development Administration grant.
This grant must be matched with
other funds for a total project of
$1,232,000.
To date four contracts have been
awarded on the park site:
— $7,250 has been awarded to the
defunct South /West Planning &
Asso. for pre- engineering and site
planning specifications.
—$121 was paid the Texas A &M
Research Foundation for an ar-
cheological survey to determine if
there are any archeological finds in
the area. No ^' erse archeological

authorized extensions by the county.
Frank Thurmond of Thurmond
and Stuart General Contractors said
the contract time was suspended
this past spring due to rainy
weather, which caused access
problems in the construction area.
That contract time is scheduled to
begin again next week, he said.
The county officials have met with
city of College Station officials to try
to avoid duplication of facilities.
College Station is planning a new
community center, which will be
constructed with funds from the
city's hotel -motel tax revenues.
