HomeMy WebLinkAbout02 BCHC Minutes 02.12.2007 MINUTES BRAZOS COUNTY HISTORICAL COMMISSION FEBRUARY 12, 2007 The meeting, in the Bryan Public Library, was called to order by the Chairman, Charles Schultz at 7:05 p.m. He distributed certificates of membership to the new members present. By general consent it was agreed the job of recording secretary would be rotated among the members at each meeting. Nancy Tiner agreed to serve for the Feb. 12, 2007 meeting. The minutes of the Jan. 2007 meeting were approved as corrected to reflect that the Isom Palmer marker had arrived. There was discussion about a dedication ceremony for the marker with local heritage societies participating. Under Unfinished Business: Old Bethel Cemetery marker — application is in Austin for approval Rock Prairie Church and School —no new information, the church owns the contents Which will probably be removed and the building demolished. Under New Business: Archaeology Committee —No report Education Committee -3 members of the BCHC volunteered at the Regional History Fair at Washington -on- the - Brazos on Feb. 9, 2007 Historical Markers and Research Committee —Bill Page announced he had articles From Early Texas newspapers and he can be contacted for research Marker application for Reliance Cemetery and Church application has been sent to Austin for approval. Julie Schultz stated that some information which had previously been on the Texas Historical Commission website has been removed. The narratives on the marker applications are no longer there. Announcements for future events: March 1 -- Dedication of a Marker for William L. Bringhurst, who married a daughter of Sam Houston, in the Bryan City Cemetery March 2— American Mile Walk, Veterans Park March 8 —Henry Mayo will make a presentation to the Bryan City Council on the History of Boonville in hopes of getting the city to purchase part of the old city square. 1 June 18 & 19— Anniversary of Zebulon Pike camping out on OSR. PR needed for this. Ann Boykin distributed copies of "Moments in History" of project Hold and bookmarks. The Meeting adjourned at 8:13 p.m. Nancy R.
