The Precinct 3 Volunteer
Fire Department has
_purchased land for con -
struction of a central fire
,station at the intersection
( c of FM 1179, Morgan and
Mize roads near Reliance.
Department president
N James H. Williams Jr. said
the three - quarters of an
acre, $2,000 purchase was
made through fund-raising
efforts of the precinct 3
volunteers.
"The location of the land
is a good one since it
allows the fire trucks to
respond to calls in four
different directions,
Williams said. "A new
main fire station at this
location is badly needed
and we hope to start
construction sometime this
year."
Williams said funding
for the station would
require additional fund-
raising, adding that low -
cost loans are available for
the project. He noted that
the volunteers hope to
raise enough funds to
design the building with
additional features that
would be appropriate for
other community services.
"Besides housing the fire
trucks we would like to
have a building large
enough to be used for fund-
raising and social events to
benefit all residents of
precinct 3," Williams said.
"The Ladies' Auxiliary
would make their home
there, and we'd like to
have a communications
room for county -side
communications."
Williams said plans for
construction also provide
space for fire department
meetings and training
sessions, an office for the
fire chief and training
officer and a kitchen that
has been requested by the
Ladies' Auxiliary.
He noted that the fire
department is seeking new
members.
"The new building would
be the main fire station but
we would like to eventually
have smaller stations
throughout the precinct."
