The equipment you mention in your letter of December 15th will be found in Item Number One on the first page. As near as we can determine, the nearest Service Station which is familiar with our equipment is the RCA Service Company, 8006 Turquoise, Houston 2L, Texas, and the man in charge of this office is Mr. W. 7. Miller. ire are sure he can handle the modifications for you but would probably require that you deliver the equipment to him at Houston. If there are any local mobile service shops they can undoubt- edly do the modifications as the kits which we list all include the necessary instructions. TMKS (R) November 21, 1962 BULLETIN NO. P -1155 SUBJECT; Split Channel Conversion F.C.C. rules require split channel conversion by November 1, 1963. This require- ment demands that the transmitter be provided with a "roll off" filter between the modulation limiter and the phase modulator. Frequency stability must also be improved over former requirements. The 30 -50 me band requires a stability of .002% that can be obtained without ovens. The 148 -174 me and the 450 -470 me bands require a stability of .0065 %. To obtain .0005% stability, it is necessary to use ovens to maintain the crystal at constant temperature. • The equipment in the 30 -50 me band shipped prior to August 1958 was supplied with non -oven crystals with a .003% tolerance. In every case new crystals are necessary to assure compliance with the F.C.C. rules. Equipment in the 148 -174 me and 150 -170 me bands has been supplied with both non - oven crystals and crystals in ovens. If they have ovens, the stability is adequate. If they do not have ovens, such ovens must be added. In many instances, the crystal in the equipment can be placed in the oven and provide the required stability. There will be scene crystals that will not trim to the required frequency when placed in the oven. The reason is that it adds some capacity to the circuit and may move the crystal so far off frequency that the trimmer will not pull it on. The F.C.C. rules do not require that anything be done to the selectivity of the receiver and there is no real need to better its selectivity unless the user is experiencing adjacent channel interference. It is often times desirable to better the selectivity of the receiver when converting the transmitter to provide insurance against adjacent channel interference due to systems which may be added on adjacent channels. Whether the receiver is modified or notdepends on the need to do it. Kits are available for the various phases of the above conversions and are listed on the attached sheets. G. W.
