The Brazos County Emergency Planning office with the
support of the County Commissioners, Brazos County USDA
Defense Board, the Fire Department of Bryan and College
Station and the A &M Fire Fighting school is formulating
a Rural Fire Protection Plan for Brazos County.
The purpose of this plan is:
1. Establish a Rural Fire reporting system which will
speed up fire fighting equipment dispatch to the rural area
affected.
2. Establish rural fire districts and fire zone warning
to aid in identification of a reported fire area.
3. Survey all fire fighting resources in each district.
4. Establish volunteer fire brigades in each district to
battle fires until fire department equipment arrives.
5. Train and organize rural brigades in effective fire
fighting units.
With the support we can give the rural areas in organizing
a fire fighting capability in each district, it is conceivable
that fire losses and expense could be cut in half.
To achieve this, we will need your support and cooperation.
The initial meeting will be held Monday, April 27th at
7:30 pm in the Medallion Room in the Bryan Utilities Building.
You are being asked to represent your district at this
meeting and to assist us in serving as a steering committee
for this program.
I have enclosed a list of citizens we have asked to
serve on this committee and a copy of the fire index map.
Additional personnel will be needed to help to complate the
program and we will be depending on you to assist us in this
area of work.
The program we have been working on is designed to pro-
vide you with a better fire protection capability and I be-
lieve it will work if each of us will support it by attending
this steering committee meeting.
If you cannot possibly attend, please have someone from
your area represent you.

Establish workable fire fighting groups or brigades.
Appoint 1 fire captain and at least 2 assistant fire captains
to each community (possibly 5 men needed to each area)
Mr. Frierson will make list of needed equipment and main to
each man.
We will furnish decals, stickers and phone number cards for
telephones.
Men can buy uniforms and badges.
Training for fire fighting. . . . need to meet at least twice
a year or maybe more.
2 hrs per meeting.
Each community could possibly meet and train within themselves.
