Dear
I have enclosed a copy of a memorandum from
Mr. Sam Logan of the Texas Forest Service, who also
serves as our County Civil Defense Public Relations
Officer.
I would like to attend this exercise to look at the
mobile command post communications center operations
that they will be using. I think it would give us some
input into the possibility and design of a mobile
command post which we may one day be able to acquire.
I believe you will find this a very worthwhile
effort to attend and observe this operation.
Sincerely yours,
c;)-cciet,
Jake Canglose

Re: Advance Fire Training & Mobile Command Post Exercise
Jake, some days ago you expressed an interest in you, and
perhaps Chief Charles Phelps, attending one of our fire training
sessions in which we used our mobile command post (communications
trailer), with the thought in mind that it might be put to use at some
later date in a simulated disaster drill for the Brazos Civil Defense
system.
We lucked out, and if you're still interested, you won't even
have to travel very far to observe our system.
Our next Advance Fire Training course will be put on at the
Kurten Fire Station Fr4day afternoon and Saturday, April 24 -25.

I i
Basicall fire training staff, from Lufkin, begins
the course with an }your and a half orientation period at the fire
station at about_X p.m. on Friday afternoon, and then we put on a
practice simulated large fire (or disaster) exercise Friday evening.
In addition to our fire training staff, one of our TFS Overhead (fire
management system) Teams, usually 12 people, shows the students how to
organize the disaster work and use the communications equipment.
Then on Saturday morning, the students will actually get
hands -on experience running the simulated exercise, with our overhead
team and staffers assisting, either as counterpart role players, or to
critique the event, or both.
