The purpose of this meeting is to bring you up to date on your responsibilities as shelter officer and to aquaint you with the local government policies. We will try to keep this session to about two hours. Due to some new changes being made in our operational pro- cedures and I am sure you have questions that need answering in order to better prepare our community, I feel sure that you will want to attend this meeting if at all possible. Your authority is delegated by the governments of Brazos County and and the cities of Bryan and College Station. Once you have accepted this responsibility, you are responsible to this office and your local governments for the use and operation of this shelter. You have the authority to appoint as many assistants as necessary to carry out these duties. Although the attached guidelines are detailed, it must be emphasized that the common sense and integrity of the shelter manager will be the most important element in carrying out your responsibilities. EMERGENCY CHECK LIST 1. Fill all water drums and /or containers. 2. Mark shelter areas and clear out furniture, etc. for shelter occupancy. (Use inclosed floor plan maps for shelter area location.) 3. If shelter areas is divided into different locations within building - establish food and water distribution plan. 4. Assign an assistant shelter manager for each divided area. 5. Establish registration, inventory, and collect all supplies brought in. 6. Appoint needed shelter officials. 7. Relocate telephones and /or establish communications with Civil Defense Control. 8. Maintain log records of all activities and return records to this office upon termination of shelter stay. Communications Officer Relocating telephones, installing radios, establishing and maintaining communications with Control Center. VI.
