HomeMy WebLinkAboutRideout, Ruth Lee 1917-2010 June G, ? ���h 2tIeotd August 31, 1917 — June 8, 2010 Ruth Lee Rideout, 92, of Bryan passed away on Tuesday, June 8, 2010, at St. Joseph Manor. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m , Wednesday, June 9, at Hillier Funeral Home. Services are set for 2 p.m. Thursday, a June 10, at First United Methodist Church in Bryan. Interment will follow at Rest -Ever �£ ' Memorial Park. Ruth was born on August 31, 1917, in Paris, Texas, to Burt and Gussie (McWhorter) Richey. At the age of 10, she moved with her family to the Rio Grande Valley and finished high school and business college in Raymondville, Texas. She met and married Wayne "Doc" Rideout when he was coaching and teaching in Raymondville. In 1952, they moved to Bryan, where Ruth was employed as an executive secretary for Selective Service Systems, covering two Central Texas counties, later expanding to six counties. After Selective Service Systems closed, she became the office manager and aide for the District Office for Congressman Olin Teague. She was also elected to serve as a regional board member for three terms for Selective Service Systems. She attended Texas A &M University and the American College of Real Estate, where she obtained her Realtor license. She was most recently a member of the Women's Club, Women's Civic League, the Heritage Society, the First United Methodist Church and the Neighborly Sunday school class. Ruth lived in the East Side Historic District in Bryan and served two terms on the East Side Landmark Commission. She was previously a member of the Brazos County Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce, Knife and Fork Club and the Girls Club, and later served on the board for the latter two organizations. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Wayne "Doc" Rideout in July 1994. Survivors include her daughter, Linda R.
