C. H. S. students take time to be courteous and win the coveted Sportsmanship Award
offered by the Navasota Lions Club to the school in District 23-AA showin the best

Volume 19 A & M Consolidated High School College Station, Texas
FOREWORD
We doubt if there are students in any school who can crowd more living
into a day than do students of C.H.S. The whole day is a race to "beat the clock"
in living a well- rounded and richly rewarding life.
If this Annual helps you in years to come to relive those days, the Staff of
the 1957 Tigerland will be happy. We hope you enjoy your Annual.

°' SCRAPPY TIGERS NEVER CEASED TO FIGHT
/ / // ----. , Coach Horace Schaffer's A & M Consolidated Tiger football team,
featured by inexperience and outweighed in every game they played,
managed only one win in ten tries during the 1956 grid season.
.. Despite the Tigers' last place finish in District 23-AA, they placed
two of their g ridders center Steadman Davis and fullback Bill Kavanaugh,
on the All- District squad. Kavanaugh, a junior, as was Davis, made
' , honorable mention all- state.
j In rugged non - district competition, C. H. S. bowed to Cleveland, 1
tr w i 33 -13, romped over Madisonville, 28 -20, was blasted by Rockdale, 46 -0,
was blanked again by Smile 39-0, went down before Giddings,
g Y Y. g 24-0,
and got stomped 46 -0 by Tomball.
The district champions, Navasota, buried the Tigers, 47 -14, in ar+°
I . their conference opener, although the Tigers ran and tackled with author -
eg rity before a large homecoming crowd. Cypress- Fairbanks, in their own
,, e T homecoming game, barely slipped by C. H. S., 14 -13, Caldwell exploded
LA
if for three touchdowns within an eleven- minute period for a 20 -0 victory
mss,, over the visitors. In the Tigers' season finale, they ran into a strong
crew from Bellville and were stampeded, 47 -0.
Consolidated football co- captains were seniors Garland Andrews,
guard, and Bill Hall, halfback.

The short, scrappy Tigers, boasting only one senior, and losing all eight district battles, still placed two
men on the All- District 23-AA Team. Gaining such honors were: Potts, 6 -1 forward, and Alton Arnold, 5 -9 sopho-
more who played just about every position.
Potts was team captain and leading scorer for the team, while Kavanaugh was chosen "Most Valuable

The annual Kiwanis Tournament found the Tigers taking second place, as they were dumped by Navasota

With mixed emotions we say good -bye to the loyal friend whop; we had come to regard as indispensable to
C. H. S. Our feeling of loss is less intense because of our pride in your promotion. Hundreds of students who
have known your friendly counsel in C. H. S., Dr. Richardson, have left this school better citizens because of
it. We shall miss you.
