The Freedom March is an occasion for citizens of the Brazos Valley to endorse the importance of freedom and world peace. With your support we can move closer toward peace and freedom for all people. The 2003 Freedom March will start at Sadie Thomas Park (129 Moss Street) at 10:00 a.m. and conclude at Kemp Elementary School(1601 W. MLK Street) with remarks and a tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by Dr. Karan Watson, Dean of Faculties and Associate Provost and Regents Professor of Electrical Engineering at Texas A &M University. Transportation will be provided back to Sadie Thomas Park at the conclusion of the event. Because music has always been integral to the struggle for freedom, this year we have chosen to emphasize the power of song by utilizing volunteer songleaders. Songleaders must have the energy to make a group want to sing. Their primary function will be to initiate the first stanza of the chorus throughout the crowd. Individuals who are interested in being a songleader are required to meet at Sadie Thomas Park at 9:00 a.m. to practice. We invite you to participate in this annual historic event. Please help spread the word. Communication about the march can be directed to Becky Petitt at 862 -9330 or MLK_March @yahoo.com (underscore after MLK). In the event of rain, please report to Kemp Elementary School at 10:00 a.m. I plan on volunteering to help out with the singing. Eleanor
