HomeMy WebLinkAboutGeorge Bush Drive 1998 17 December 98
Hi Pam - --
Thanks for all your work on this street naming project. First of all, just one nit to pick:
I checked with several Civil War sources, experts, and web sites -- there is no record of a Civil
War general named "Suffolk ". David might want to revisit this item and its source (which I do
not recall).
More importantly for the project though, it occurred to me that we need to say more
about how George Bush Drive used to be Jersey Street. Please use the following (or some
variation) in the document you are updating:
George Bush Drive -- George Herbert Walker Bush, 41st
President of the United States (1989 -93). Street named
was changed from Jersey Street in 1992 as part of the
proposal from TAMU and College Station to obtain the
Bush Presidential Library.
George Bush Drive E. -- Street name changed in 1998
from Kyle Street to honor George Herbert Walker Bush,
41st President of the United States (1989 -93).
Also, please include the following improvements:
Holt: After O.M. Holt, city council member (1964 -70)
and Mayor (1974 -76) of College Station.
King Arthur and Lancelot -- Platted by J.B. Hervey,
former Mayor of College Station, and Dorsey McCrory.
Finally, Berkley is probably not named after the California city, which is spelled
differently -- Berkeley.
This is a good project for us to do well. Thanks for keeping all of this information current
for us.
Happy Holidays to you and your family from me and mine
Dock Burke
