REGULAR MEETING
WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 8TH, 1992 - 7:OOPM

I. CALL TO ORDER:
The meeting was call to order at 7:08 pm.
II. APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
The minutes were approved.
III. REVIEW OF APPLICATIONS:
Three applications were reviewed for historical home plaques: #13 - 210 Lee : Mark &
Lisa Sicilio; #16 - 120 Lee : Mr. & Mrs. Neeley Lewis (this home will be on the Brazos
Heritage Society Home Tour in February); #17 - 1005 Puryear : Ms. Patranella Sauer.
All of the applications were approved.
IV. PLAQUE PRESENTATION DATES:
The next plaque presentation date will be January 9th. Plaque #14 will be presented to
Mr. & Mrs. Motes. Bonnie will be at the council meeting to represent the Historical
Committee.
V. RICHARD CARTER CEMETERY MONUMENTS:
David has been corresponding with Precious Memories, a headstone company, who is
attempting to use computer enhancement to produce a more detailed picture for a better
reproduction of the original headstones. Gary stated that Roger Beaumont said that there
was an insignia from the War of 1812 on the backside of Richard Carter's original
headstone. This should be in one of the pictures that the committee has of the
headstones. David suggested contacting Scott and White Medical Center for a donation
to cover the cost of reproducing the headstones. Gary suggested contacting the Carter
Historic Preservation Committee

family relatives for donations also. Nancy recommended putting all donors' names on a
plaque.
VI. OTHER COMMITTEE CONCERNS:
David had a meeting with Clara Mounce and Mary Henshaw from the Bryan /College
Station Library about setting up a lockable filing cabinet for historic files. They agreed
to the proposal, requesting that all permanent files be located at the College Station
Library, while copies and working files be kept at the Parks & Recreation Department.
The permanent files would be able to be used for research while at the library, but not
checked out.
Nancy mentioned that she went to a High Speed Rail meeting. The railroad, if
constructed, should be locate somewhere in the near vicinity of Bryan /College Station.
The committee mentioned that it would be a great idea to have a reproduction of the old
station, set up as a museum or something, next to the modern station that would have to
be built. Gary recalled seeing an old station near Waco several years ago; he inquired
about it and was quoted a price of $25,000 for the building which he said was in good
condition. Nancy would like to see the station named "College Station ".
Gary mentioned that the Brazos Heritage Society has started the process of getting their
brochure produced.
Lois mentioned that the Chamber of Commerce doesn't have any historic brochures at
their location. David stated that he will take some to them to distribute.
Gary stated that the A &M historic committee that formed recently, had their first
meeting. The committee is very adamant about producing their own markers, as opposed
to purchasing state markers.
