`Confessions of a Small Town Mayor"
Mayor Ben White will again host a session of Coffee with the Mayor on Friday, January 30, at 8 a.m. at
the College Station Conference Center. But this session will have a new twist. College Station has
seven living former mayors and it is expected that the majority of those will be on hand for Coffee with
the Mayors.
Being the mayor of a relatively small and close knit community such as College Station has its ups and its
downs. For one thing, many of the residents actually know the mayor or at least they feel they can pick
up the phone and call him or her on most anything that concerns them. Over the years these past mayors
have a few "tales" about their experiences in office. In particular, former Mayor Gary Halter wrote a little
book after his term entitled Confessions of a Small Town Mayor. He will share some of the funnier
excerpts from that book and the other former mayors will share some of their more memorable
experiences while in office. It is expected to be an enjoyable session with some humorous and fond
memories that the audience will enjoy.
After the coffee the "Honoring Our Mayors" exhibit will be on display at the Conference Center and the
Heritage Programs and Project HOLD Office will hold an Open House from 9am to 5pm. The
staff would like to encourage the public to come and enjoy a trip down memory lane with the mayors.
