Rich in history, Beauvoir is the stunning home of the only
President of the Confederate States of America and the place
where he penned his memoirs. The 51-acre estate, fronting
the Gulf of Mexico, was also once the site of the Mississippi
Confederate soldier's home, which cared for hundreds of
Southern veterans and their wives.
The beautifully restored Beauvoir house, completed by 1852
and shaded by massive live oaks, dominates the sprawling
complex that includes antebellum outbuildings,
a Civil War museum, a historic cemetery, the Tomb of the
Unknown Soldier, and nature trails. The Jefferson Davis
Presidential Library, dedicated in 1998, completes the
self-guided tour with a film and exhibits that explore the life
and times of the South's greatest leader.
