No. 1072 SENATE PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in recognizing Susie Velasco as a treasured citizen of our state and of College Station, Texas; and WHEREAS, A well-known philanthropist and community leader, Susie Velasco volunteers her time in the evenings and on weekends to 10 different charities and still finds time for her full-time jobs as an administrative clerk, mother of four, and grandmother of 10; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Velasco first became a volunteer in 1966 when she began serving as a Little League team mother; and WHEREAS, Her many charitable causes include the Jerry Lewis Telethon, the Black and White Scholarship Ball, and Reading is Fundamental; she also comforts families at Saint Joseph Hospital, picks up food stamps for friends, and translates letters for Spanish-speaking citizens; and WHEREAS, The City of College Station declared September 14, 1993, as Susie Velasco Appreciation Day in tribute to her dedication and her outstanding work as a leader and volunteer; and WHEREAS, Susie Velasco's concern for others is legendary, and she has played a major role in the betterment of the College Station community; and WHEREAS, An exemplary lady, Susie Velasco is a source of strength to many, and her worthy accomplishments reflect her devotion and commitment to her fellowman; now, therefore, be it PROCLAIMED, That the Senate of the State of Texas hereby commend Susie Velasco for her exceptional endeavors on behalf of others and extend to her best wishes for the future; and, be it further f PROCLAIMED, That a copy of this Proclamation be prepared for her as an expression of esteem fr.8m the Texas Senate. emb r~Texas Senate I hereby certify that the Vve Proclamation was adopted.
