San Jacinto Battleground State Historical Site
On April 21, 1836, Texas won its independence when
an outnumbered Texian Army heroically defeated
Mexican forces on the plains of San Jacinto. Today the
San Jacinto Battleground State Historical Site covers over
1,200 acres of rolling green meadowland and is home to
the Battleship TEXAS and the San Jacinto Monument and
San Jacinto Museum of History. Visitors can also enjoy
picnic areas, historical markers, and nature trails shaded
by moss- covered live oaks. The Park is open daily.
Battleship Texas
The Battleship TEXAS, commissioned in 1914, is the
only surviving battleship to have served in both world
wars and is the last surviving Dreadnought. The TEXAS
served as flagship for the D -Day invasion of Normandy
and earned seven ribbons for her service during World
War II. Come aboard and experience what life was like
for thousands of American sailors and Marines.
The Battleship is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Kids 12 years and under are admitted free of charge.
