This high number of pages scanned is due to items being “dropped in” as PDFs and not scanned. • El Camino Real de los Tejas meeting photos • “The King’s Highway, The Great Strategic Military Highway” by Mrs. Lipscomb Norvell, 1945 • Link to “Women in Texas History” to be placed on home page Contacts – 5 • Julie Hostak, Grants Coordinator, City of Arlington, Texas – The City of Arlington asked if they could use our Historic Marker Application packet as a guideline for their program. • Stephanie McMillen and Gregg Rivera, George Bush School of Government and Public Service – Are analyzing city government policies on historic preservation and will be using the City of College Station as a model. • Brad Stafford, Navasota City Manager, interested in heritage programs on a shoestring • Wanda Colvin, Cleveland Historical Society Chairman, is interested in starting a website for their city like Project HOLD. Presentations – 7 • March 6 – Hosted 2nd planning meeting for El Camino Real de los Tejas Committee. • March 9 – Spoke on behalf of the Heritage Programs assistance with “100 Years of Class” event to the combined City Council and CSISD Board Meeting. • March 12 – KBTX spot on the “Morning Show” • March 16 – Presented El Camino Real to the Honorable Randy Sims • March 18 – Exploring History Lunch Lecture Series, “Texas Aggies Go to War: In Service of their Country,” with Dr. Henry Dethloff, 81 guests, 6 comp’d (9 speaker and staff), donations $385, meal cost $790.90. • March 20-21 – Worked at the Museum of the American G.I. Open House and WWII Battle Re-Enactment. • March 25 – Hosted first meeting of Evolution of Local Government – Focus on Women. Research Requests – 3 • Ross Delong, San Antonio – requested historical information on a vintage car he was restoring that had had “A&M Donut Shop” painted on the side. Answer: Was able to document the original owner, address of shop, and next owners of shop and vehicle • Cody Welch, home school high school student –Won an award from History Fair and is pursuing another level of award. His topic: Earl Rudder. Wanted interviews with Dr. Henry Dethloff , Col. Jim Woodall and Tom Turbiville. Answer: Gave out contact info on Dethloff, Woodall and Turbiville. Also suggested the Honorable Tom March 31, 2009 City of College Station Page 2 of 3 McDonald whose father was instrumental in advising Rudder on admitting women to A&M. Also recommended several items in Project HOLD and secured a DVD of “Golden Memories” which has an interview with Mrs. Margaret Rudder. Also put him in touch with Bud Rudder. • Laurie Virkstis -I am considering a move to College Station and would like to know where to start looking for a home in preservation sensitive neighborhoods. Are there any tax incentives for making improvements to properties ID'd as "historic?" Answer: Gave her a brief rundown on our newly formed Landmark Commission and referred her to Hillary Jessup. Publicity –1 mailing; 2 articles; 16 viewings • Sent email to Heritage Programs database and media contacts regarding the Exploring History Lunch Lecture Series. • Exploring History Lunch Lecture Series date and topic appeared in “The Eagle” numerous times in the calendar • Project HOLD screenshot was used to illustrate an article in the Texas Historical Commission magazine, April/May 2009 edition (This will be the issue featured at the THC Conference in April.) • Article appeared in “The Eagle” following the Exploring History Lunch Lecture Series featuring “Texas Aggies Go to War” and Dr. Henry Dethloff • Exploring History Lunch Lecture showing on CSTV-19 on Tuesdays, 4 a.m. and 4 p.m. Oral History Interviews – 9 • Charles Gross , Fire Control Technician USN, 1966-1968, served on the USS Iwo Jima LPH-2 • Toby Chandler ‘55 – Secret Service, Presidential Detail from Eisenhower through Reagan • Gerry Hince • Howard Nash –MP USA 1967 – 1969 • Eldon Gurley – USMC 1945 – 1946 • Dana Reynard – USA 1977-1981 • Capt. Luke Reynard – USA 1st Air Cav Brigade • Harold Federwisch – MP USA • Linda Libasci – USA 1974-2003 Publications –2 • Wrote two articles for Public Communications to use in an upcoming magazine publication • Wrote the Proclamation read by Mayor White to the CSISD on their upcoming “100 Years of Class” celebration Historic Markers – 0 • Currently, 85 Historic Home Markers, 8 Building Markers and 2 Historic Subject Markers March 31, 2009 City of College Station Page 3 of 3 Community Outreach -6 • March 9 – Attended Brazos County Historical Commission meeting. • March 11 – Attended Brazos Valley Veterans Memorial Board meeting • March 25 – Attended Burleson County presentation in Caldwell by Dr. Al McGraw, author of “El Camino Real Historic Survey” for TxDOT • March 28 – Worked with the Big Event students to paint the historic street markers • March 30 – Attended the Medal of Honor Ceremony at the Corps Center honoring 2nd Lt. Lloyd “Pete” Hughes, ’43. • March 31 – Attended Historic Preservation meeting hosted by City of Bryan INTERNAL Intern –0 hours No intern at this time. I'm really impressed. There is no way they pay you enough. I could not find even a mention of the donut shop after 2 weeks of searching on the internet.
