Jo-Ann was born on September
30, 1935, in Lubbock, Texas, to Harvey and Lozelle Kincaid
Turnbough. Jo-Ann received her bachelor's degree from the
University of Texas. Jo-Ann's true passion in life was her
volunteer work. She was involved in numerous organizations
which empowered young women to believe in themselves and to live successful and happy lives, She served as the past president
of the PEO, EQ chapter, and was a former member of the
Woman's Club. Jo-Ann was also involved in the Brazos Valley
Wearable Arts group.
Most notably was Jo-Ann's work with the Delta Delta Delta (Tri
Delta) Sorority and the Girl Scouts. Jo-Ann, along with other
sorority members, was very instrumental in the founding and
formation for Panhellanic at Texas A&M University. She served
as president of the House Corporation for Tri Delta. During
her volunteer work with the Girl Scouts, Jo-Ann served on the National Board of Directors for the Girl Scouts of the USA,
as president of the Bluebonnet Council and as troop leader and
numerous other volunteer roles. She received the Woman of
Distinction award from the ,Girl Scouts, which was presented
to her by the governor ofTexas. Jo-Ann's time and efforts to her many organizations will forever be remembered by many. In
addition to all of Jo-Ann's volunteer work, she fully supported
her family, husband and children in all their activities over the
years. She will be greatly missed.
Jo-Ann was preceded in death by her parents and cousin, Marcia Johnson.
Survivors include her loving husband of more than 50 years,
Rayford "Ray" Anthony of College Station; daughters and sons-
in-law, Kathryn M. and James Bruning of Houston and Elizabeth R. and David Steel of Upper Montclaire, N.J.; grandchildren,
Catherine Emma Steel, Brooke Elizabeth Steel and James
Rayford Bruning; and cousins, Francis Coker of San Antonio,
Robert Kincaid of Crowell; Texas, Elizabeth Jean Edwards
of Glen Burney, Md., Robert Grimes of Crowell, Texas, and
Margaret Z. Couch of Lubbock, Texas.
In lieu of Rowers, memorials in Jo-Ann's name may be made
to the Girl Scouts of Y:
