Powell Harvey, well known Negro of the Fountain Switch community west
of Bryan, died at his farm home in that community Tuesday at 6 o'clock
after a brief illness. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m.
with interment made at Canaan cemetery 7 miles west of Bryan. Powell
Harvey was one of the leading Negro citizens of Brazos County and owned
Bryan. Rev. C.C. Smith, pastor of the above named church, presided.
The following officers were elected: Rev. C.C. Smith, president; F.B.
Goosby, secretary; Henry Crawford, treasurer. All young colored men are
invited to attend Wednesday night, January 22, at Lee Chapel M.E.
Church. The purpose of the organization is to inspire and better the
condition of the Negroes of this vicinity.
