Page 1 of 1 abouTov College Station Celebrates "Seventy Years of Leadership" October 21, 2008 On Thursday afternoon, October 16, "Seventy Years of Leadership", a reunion of mayors and council members, was celebrate( College Station's first dedicated City Nall, now Cafe Eccel, at 101 Church Street. The festive event, organized by Anne Boykin, Programs, was hosted by the Historic Preservation Committee, Project HOLD, Cafe Eccel and members of the Department of I Recreation, was attended by five mayors, numerous council members and city staff. In attendance were: former mayors Gary t-falter, Larry Ringer: Lynn Mcllhaney, Ron Silvia, and Mayor Ben White. Former coup present were: Horner Adams, Bill Cooley, Pat Boughton, David Hickson, Click Birdwell, John I-3app. Chris Scotti, Nancy Crouch, Runnels representing her late husband; Robert Runnels, Representing the current City Council were: Mayor Ben White. Denni, I...arry Stew art, and Lynn Mcllhaney. Mayor White, City Manager Glenn Brown, and Superintendent of Special Facilities David the opening remarks followed by former Council Member Pat Boughton. Other city officials were present as well. The reunion was the first such gathering in the history of the city who is celebrating their 70th birthday over the next year. On October 19, 1938, by a vote of 217 to 39, members of the community of College Station voted to incorporate. The election was held at the train depot west of the Agricultural and Mechar of Texas campus on Wellborn Road. The City wishes to thank Costa Dallis and Cafe Eccel for hosting the event. Children in the community recently participated in a birthday card contest honoring the City's birthday. The cards are on display at the College Station Conference Center. Winners will be selected and prizes given it) November. An exhibit, "Honoring Our Mayors" will open at the Conference Center in December.
