Project HOLD to see if we were interested in buying several video tapes of footage they shot for a series on Bryan/College Station several years ago. The tapes have been purchased and
are on their way. o Texas Association of Museums (TAM) – David Gerling and I attended attended a planning meeting called by Lisa Kalmus (Sanders Corps of Cadets Center) held at the B/CS
Convention Visitors Bureau. TAM has chosen College Station as its location for their 2010 Annual Convention. o Costa Dallis, owner of Café Eccel, has agreed to host a special reception
honoring current and former mayors, council members, and specific COCS staff on Thursday, October 16, 2008, from 3-5pm. o Cristin Burton, GIS Intern, is working on an historical GIS
layer and aerial map for the 70th Birthday Party. o Dynamic Environmental Associates, on behalf of American Tower Corporation, contacted the Project HOLD office concerning a communications
tower relocation at 4000 Dansby Lane. It was determined that no known historic resources would be affected by this construction. Presentations – 1 o KAMU Radio – Recorded an interview
with Cheryl Clements and Penny Zent concerning the “Worth Remembering” event to be held Nov. 10. The event is a public reading of correspondence, poetry, prose reflecting the impact
of war on the local community. Materials collected from this event will be archived into Project HOLD.
Research Requests – 2 o Jessica Bucknum in Finance asked for help in researching the company who made the bronze plaques at the Larry Ringer Library. Answer: Hidell & Associates. o Julie
Spriggs, daughter of former College Station resident Dillard Spriggs, wanted to know the population of College Station between 1926 and 1942. She is working on a memorial for her dad
and will also be contributing a scholarship fund to A&M Consolidated High School. She was also interested in more history of the same time period. Answer: Pop.350 (1884); Pop. 391 (1900);

–3 o Sent a press release announcing a call for veterans names to go on the Brazos Valley Veterans Memorial wall; resulted in coverage in “The Eagle” o Sent a press release announcing
the 70th Birthday Party Contest; also distributed 5000 flyers to College Station schools, private schools and home schools o Sent a press release announcing the “Worth Remembering” event;
resulted in coverage in “The Eagle” Historic Markers – 2 o Currently, 84 Historic Home Markers, 8 Building Markers and 2 Historic Subject Marker o Application approved for Historic Home
Marker #83 for 317 Pershing o Application approved for Historic Home Marker #84 for 303 West Dexter o Application pending for Historic House Marker #85 for 1203 Walton Drive o A replacement
marker (Historic Building #1) has been ordered for Café Eccel. Their marker was stolen and Costa Dallis, the restaurant owner, asked if we could replace it in time for the 70th Birthday
Party. Community Outreach -4. o Attended the HPC Meeting o Attended the Brazos Valley Veterans Memorial Board o Attended the Tree Preservation Ordinance public forum o Provided COCS
footballs, mini-sunscreen kit, and PH brochures for the Lincoln Former Students Reunion o Veterans Park has been reserved for the 70th Birthday Party on Oct. 19, 2008, from 3-5pm.
INTERNAL Intern – 0 hours o No intern at this time; call for interns has been sent to TAMU, Blinn and SHSU . Volunteers – 6 hours o Vicki Eastes has helped with the move to the Conference
Center and with the take down of the “Scenes of the Sixties” exhibit.
