for Rev
at fever
pitch
he political season is
in full roar, and it's a
barnburner.
No, I'm not talking about
the race for the presidency.
Or even the race for county
attorney. I'm talking about
something near and dear to
the hearts of Aggies every
where: the next Reveille.
If you recall, the past two
Sundays we've addressed
the subject of choosing the
right breed of dog for the
next Reveille. A &M officials
have

next Rev

collie,
anda
committee has been formed
to look into the options.
I offere d my opinions,
then asked for yours. So for
two weeks now you've let
me know — in spades —
how you feel about this
most important question of
our time. I've gotten hun-
dreds of e -mails — so many
I couldn't respond to them
all.
We also put up an online
survey at www.theeagle.
com so folks could cast their
votes. As of Saturday
evening, more than 3,800
ballots had been cast.
That's right, 3,800 votes.
To put that in perspective,
consider this: About 3,335
citizens voted in Bryan's
municipal election last year.
About 3,664 people voted in
College Station. So by the
time our polls close Mon-
day, we'll no doubt have
more voters than either city
had last time around.
Does that mean we're
more interested in the
Aggie mascot than in our
city councils? Is it a signal
that our political priorities
are, ahem, going to the
dogs? To steal a phrase from
one of th networks, "We
report. You decide."
We'll keep the survey
going until 10 a.m. Monday
so everyone has ample
opportunity to vote.
Remember, you can vote
only once a day.
The results so far are
interesting. "Mutt," or a
pound dog, was in first
place as of late. Saturday
with 42.86 percent of the
vote. Collie, which has beer
synonymous with Reveille
for decades now, was in sec
and place with 31.11 per-
cent. No other breed on out
survey was even coming
close.
There have been some
interesting write -ins, and
I'll get into those in next
Sunday's column, when w(
present the final results. S1
stay tuned.
So far it seems to be prei
ty much a grass -roots cam
paign. In the interest of fu
disclosure, I've only seen
one example of an organiz
movement, and that was c
behalf of the mutt. Jim Wi
son, The Eagle's publishes
gave some classified ads t
th animal shelter to pro-
mote "mutt" for Reveille.
