HomeMy WebLinkAboutNegro raises his coffin and asks for daughterStories from Long Ago -Bill Page Negro Raises Up in His Coffin and Asks for Daughter Bryan, Texas, April 18 -Abe Reddin, an aged Negro, reported dead by physicians who attended him, gave a few score of Negroes a fright here yesterday when he rose up in his coffin and asked if his daughter had arrived for the funeral. She had not yet arrived so Reddin °died" again, or anyway he became unconscious. A few hours later, Reddin came back to life to ask the mourners around his coffin a few more questions. He received his replies in frightened tones. Then he °died" for the third and last time. At least the physicians examined him and said he was so dead that he couldn't possibly ask any more questions, and the daughter arriving, the burial was held. Reddin had lain in his coffin for three days. Negroes during the time he was °dying"and coming back to life gave the house wide birth.
