She attended Kansas State Univer- sity, earning a B.S. in Home Economics. While at Kansas State she met and married Lloyd W. Rooney, her husband of 43 years. Maxine taught home economics in Kansas schools for a year and a half before moving to Bryan in 1965 when Lloyd took a job with the Texas Agricultural Experiment Station. The Rooneys have three children and 10 grandchildren-all living in Texas. Bill Rooney, his wife Megan and their three boys live in College Station.. Tammy (Rooney) Duke and her husband Steve live in the Dallas area and have three daughters. Marcille (Rooney) Aldrett and her husband Salvador live in Kary with their son and three daughters. Maxine was very active mom while her children were growing up, con- standymaking sure that her children were involved in church and 4-H while still keeping their grades up. During the 14 years that her children were in 4-H, Maxine spent countless hours volunteering as a 4-H adult leader and served in different capacities in the Brazos County 4-H Adult Leader Asso- ciation. Thanks to Maxine, all her children were able to pay their own way through Texas A&M due to scholarships that were the result of her support and leadership. During these years, she also ran the family ranch. Many of Maxine's friends see her as a role model for church and com- munity service. She is a member of St Thomas Aquinas Church and has been active in St. Mary's and St Anthony's Altar Societies and religious education classes. Maxine's thoughtfulness and kindness are well known by friends, neighbors and many of her husband's graduate students. The last few years, Maxine has dedicated herself in a quiet manner to enjoying her grandkids, traveling with her husband, taking care of the ranch and volunteering. She has been a HOST volunteer at Bonham School for 14 years, spending an hour a week reading with a child. The Hospice orga- nization has been especially important to Maxine; she has served at varying levels of responsibility within the organization since 1993. From sitting at the bedsides of terminally ill patients to seining as the President of the Hos- pice Auxiliary, Maxine has affected many lives. The past seven years she has raised more than $70,000 by organizing and coordinating the Holiday Wreath sale for Hospice Auxiliary of Brazos Valley. Maxine Rooney
