Sharon's family also includes her husband, Dr. Michael Reece, daughter Karen Reece; son Bryan and his wife Jennifer and grandson Jackson. After graduating from Stephen F. Austin in the last class before Bryan High opened, she attended Baylor University and Tarrant County Junior College, earning a license as a dental hygienist. Because her interests are so varied, Sharon has helped a host of local organizations over the years, in the process developing an impressive record of service to the community. She has given her time and talent to such enti- ties as First United Methodist Church in Bryan, the OPAS Guild and almost everything in between. This year she's devoting much of her time to her job as co-chair of the American Heart Association's Heart Rock Gala, which she also chaired in 2006. Sharon's commitment to quality public education led her to several committees and positions with the Bryan Independent School District. She currently serves as a member of the board of the BISD Educational Founda- tion and is on the Executive Committee. A former member of the Junior League Board of Directors, Sharon is now a sustaining member of the League. She also recently completed a term on the Briarcrest Country Club Board of Directors. Sharon's leadership skills and talent for organizing large events are often evident in the community. In addition to her work on the Heart Rock gala, she has served as co-chair of the annual St. Joseph Bash. Her commitment to these important health charities are another indication of Sharon's dedica- tion to volunteerism and her willingness to spend her time to help ensure better health facilities in the area. She has also assisted the Community Foundation's Steering Committee for their annual fundraising luncheon. Sharon's dedicated volunteerism was recognized in 2006 when she received the KCEN-TV "6 Who Care" award for her work in the community. Sharon counts her parents as her mentors, and praises the way they have given of themselves to their family, church and community. As for her own reward, Sharon says "Besides helping the community, I have met some wonderful friends through volunteerism. What you give comes back to you in many ways. It is a privilege to live in such a great community as ours." Sharon Reece
