HomeMy WebLinkAboutPence, JackyAfter living in Houston for 10 years, Jacky Pence moved to the Brazos Valley where she soon became known to many kids as the "sports lady." Jackie grew up in Maitland, Florida, and earned her B.S. degree in Health and Physical Education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She taught school for a year in Central Florida, and then worked for 12 years in the Marketing Department for Hartford Insurance Group. However, her passion has always been in the sports-and-kids arena, so when her husband, Brad, took an insurance job in Bryan, they moved to the Brazos Valley where she immediately became very active in the athletic community here. In 1997 Jacky started the All-Girls soccer league within the College Sta- tion Soccer club. Within five years, there were over 400 girls participating in recreational soccer in College Station, prompting the Bryan Soccer club to start its own girls-only league. She also arranged for girls to work as ball kids at CSISD and TAMU Soccer games, and began the Fall Classic Soccer tournament. That same year, Jacky became involved in coaching teenage girls through the USA Volleyball club program and in 2001 became the Club Director for Brazos Valley Juniors. The club has grown from 7 teams to as many as 14 teams each season, and Jacky manages approximately 130 athletes and 25 staff members. Jacky was also instnimental in convincing the College Station Parks and Recreation Department to create a summer volleyball league in 2002, and works with the College Station Tsunamis Swim Team. Jacky's other volunteer service includes being a board member at Pebble Creek, Oakwood, and A&M Consolidated Middle School PTOs. Jacky cur- rently teaches at Bryan High School and coaches volleyball and basketball at Stephen F. Austin Middle School. She also coordinates the Aggie Court Crew for TAMU Volleyball games (elementary and middle school girls). She is currently the Past Chair of the Brazos Valley Sports Foundation where she has been a Board member for 8 years. Jacky and her family are members of Christ United Methodist Church where she has volunteered in different capacities and served on the usher team. Jacky's philosophy is simple: "Do what you like and like what you do! Spending time and energy to make a difference is easy if you are pas- sionate about it" Jacky Pence
