HomeMy WebLinkAboutHamilton-Foster, AmyAmy Hamilton-Foster was born in Lubbock, Texas in 1964, and moved
to Bryan in 1978. After graduating from Bryan High School in 1982, she
attended Texas A&M University, earning a B.S. in Sociology in 1987. She
has been a licensed social worker for the State of Texas since 1988.
Amy began her service to the youth of Bryan as a social work intern
at the Prenatal Clinic and says she was privileged to have worked with the
late Gardner Osborn. It was while interning at the Prenatal Clinic that she
met Kary Pruitt and Ray White -founders of the Options for Young Parents
Program, adrop-out prevention and recovery program specializing in help-
ing pregnant and parenting teens complete their education. Shortly after
completing her internship, she began working for the Options Program,
which became part of the Bryan Independent School District in 1988. Her
duties expanded from social work to leadership in 1991 when she became
the Coordinator for the Options Program. As the program grew, so did the
needs, and in 1993 the Options Child Development Center was opened
to serve Bryan Independent School District students. The next year Amy
completed her certification as a Childbirth Educator under the tutelage of
Mary Walraven. In 2006 Amy became Coordinator of Outreach Services,
adding homeless education to her supervision.
In addition to serving young people in her professional capacity, Amy
has served on numerous volunteer boards and committees including Project
Unity, Ciry of Bryan Youth Advisory, Founding Member/Volunteer of Family
Outreach, past treasurer and member of the Brazos County Child Welfare
Board among others. She is also an active member of the First Christian
Church, serving as a Deacon and on several other church committees.
Amy says that her most important job is that of wife and mother. Amy
has been married to Kyle D. Foster since 1984, and has three outstand-
ing daughters in Molly, Hannah, and Emma. She says that perhaps her
drive for excellence and detail comes from being surrounded by strong,
wonderful women: her West Texas mother, grandmothers and aunts, and
professional mentors the likes of Gardner Osborn, Kathleen Altman, Mary
Ellen Pate, Martha Matteson, Katy Pruitt and Mary Walraven.
