HomeMy WebLinkAboutRONNIE HOLLOWAY - USMC (2)RONNIE HOLLOWAY – CLASS OF ‘66 Hi, my name is Ronnie Holloway, 1966 grad of AMCHS. As part of the upcoming summer reunion dialog, Anne Boykin says that you are tracking Vet grads, so wanted to inform you of my service. After graduation in 1966, I attended TAMU for the summer and academic year 1966-67. Unfortunately, I partied more that I studied, so flunked out/quit in the spring of 1967. In the summer of 1967, I enlisted in the USMC. After boot camp and a couple of "A" schools, I was picked up for the Officer's Candidate program, and was commissioned a 2nd Lt in Dec 1968. I subsequently went through USAF pilot training as a Marine Aviator at Laughlin AFB, Del Rio, TX. I spent 23.5 years in the USMC flying OV-10s, T-2 Buckeye Navy Trainers, A-4s, and AV-8A/C Harriers, retiring from the USMC as a Lieutenant Colonel in Feb 1991. Later jobs included contractor support for Naval Aviation in Cherry Point, NC, and two years supporting US/NATO peacekeeping effots as an ISR (Intelligence-Surveillance-Reconnisance) p?ilot in Macedonia/Kosovo. In June 2004, I deployed to Kirkuk, Iraq flying ISR in support of coalition forces objectives in Iraq. I currently reside in Aqaba, Jordan, now managing a $30 Mil annual ISR effort in Iraq, and fly into Iraq for 5-10 days per month. My company and flight crews have been highly successful in IED suppression, and rounding up bad guys in Iraq. Still in combat, at age 59, being regularly rocketed in Kirkuk, Mosul, Tikrit, and Tal Afar, and probably getting shot at from time to time by small arms, overflying Iraq. Fun job! Unfortunately, due to work and distance, I won't be able to attend this year's reunion, so tell 'em all we're still out here on the front lines chasing Al-Quida. Regards, Ron Holloway Class of '66
