The BRAZOS GENEALOGICAL ADVERTISER is an information
publication of the Brazos Genealogical Association of Bryan-
College Station, Texas.
Meetings are the third Monday of each month from
7:00 to 9:00 in the Bryan Public Library
The ADVERTISER.is taking a new turn with this issue.
Printing costs and mailing costs have caused a re-evaluation
of some of the guidelines. Beginning with this issue, the
ADVERTISER will become a quarterly and therefore each issue
will be larger. (We will still have more than 120 pages per
year.)
The membership list will appear in the Spring
issue but surnames will not be listed as the Pedigree Charts
will take the place of that listing. Membership is $10.00
for the calendar year. Make check payable to Brazos Genea-
logical Association. Mail to BGA Treasurer:
L. A. MADDOX Jr.
2806 Brothers
College Station TX 77840
ADVERTISER Back Issues
Due to postage/mailing costs the price of single copies
and sets will be slightly higher. There are a few sets
still available and some single copies at these prices..

Up-date on the Family History Section of the Brazos
County History: The entries are beginning to come in and
all those who are working should try to have them mailed by
May. We will need some time to supplement articles where we
need to, edit them if necessary, and get them in shape for
the printer. Please get your family history together and
send it in for inclusion in the new Sesquicentennial History.
Remember that the major guideline is that the family was in
Brazos County before-1900. We are hoping to receive stories
of all these interesting pioneers: Be sure yours is included.

SOME EARLY ROBERTSON COUNTY RECORDS
One of our faithful Hearne researchers, Euline MERCHANT
BENBOW, has sent a couple of early records of Robertson County
which will undoubtedly be of interest to a good many readers.
The first document concerns the bond for public office.
The Republic of Texas - ", Know all men by these presents
County of Robertson _I
that I Hiram K. PERSON, Henry REED and E.L.R. WHEELOCK all of
the County aforesaid age held and finally bound unto Sam
HOUSTON President of S Republic and his successors in office
in the sum of twenty thousand dollars for which payment well
and truly to be made we bind ourselves and each of us Jointly
and Severally our heirs executors & administrators firmly by
these presents.
The Condition of the above obligation is such that
whereas the above bounden Hiram K. PERSON has been - duly Elected
and qualified Chief Justice in and for said County and is by
virtue o f s d office receives of public dues in & for s d County.
Now if the said Hiram K. PERSON shall faithfully discharge the
duties of Receiver of public dues for said County and shall
pay over all moneyes by him Received as the law directs then
this obligation shall be null and void otherwise shall remain
in full force and virtue.
Approved October 3rd A.D. 1843
G.W.BRODDWELL
Clk. Co.RC
I do certify the foregoing is true copy of the original bond
G.W.BRODDWELL, Clk Co.RC
(ED NOTE: They didn't pay much attention to run on sentences
or one sentence paragraphs, did they?)
This second item concerns the Grand Jury. Note that
these two documents were executed during the Republic of
Texas and there was no Brazos County per se. These items are
relevant to Brazos County and early Brazos Countians.

Below is a portion of one of these documents which is
