SUMMER TRAVEL? / SOME RESEARCH
Summer plans for most of us include some travel - -to see
relatives, to see old friends /former places we have lived, to
see new places both at home and abroad. We wish you 'Bon Voyage'
and may each sojourn be exactly what you hoped it would be:
As you set out on these trips- -long or short, close to
home or afar - -look at the map and see what little bits of research
you can tuck into a journey designed for other purposes. A visit
to relatives may be the chance to ask them or others nearby about
that puzzle that has bothered you all winter., If vacation is for
sightseeing, try a stop or a side trip to an ancestral county to
look for one extra bit of information. Don't set a long search
or a big detour; just find another tidbit or two and enjoy the
rest of the trip even more.
For those of us who stay at home, choose one line or one
problem and concentrate on it. Maybe you can plan one trip to a
nearby county, a nearby library, the Texas State Library, or to
see another researcher. Write some extra letters, invest in a
long distance phone call or two or get into that 'organization
that you have been putting off:
Our Association is making some plans to help members with
summer research. The July and August meetings will be somewhat
different, so listen for your phone call reminder or watch the
newspaper for the announcement. A visit to the A&M Library is
one possibility to discover the hiding places of the material we
know is there - -but where? Another prospect is an all day Satur-
day workshop like we have had before with special tables that
will offer help or information on several facets of search and
research. That is always a good day just sharing, visiting and
talking with our 'genealogy' friends.
So-- whatever fits into your summer, have a good one and
may you remove one stone from that 'stumbling block' before the
vacation time is over.
Listing a Brazos County cemetery would be a great way to
spend a day or two of the summer. Call Mary COOPER (846 -8278)
and let her know what cemetery you are planning to list just so
we won't duplicate efforts.
The small family cemetery listed on the following pages
was done by one adult and two aranddaughters in a couple of
hours on a Sunday afternoon.

KEEFER Cemetery
Madison County, TX
Listed 9 May 1982 by Mary COLLIE COOPER, Donna Jean COOPER
- and Robin Denise COOPER
The KEEFER Cemetery is an early family cemetery
located north of North Zulch in Madison County, TX. Going north
out of North Zulch on Farm Road 39 for approximately 1.5 miles,
turn left and go 2.3 miles. The KEEFER Cemetery will be on the
right down a dirt road. The cemetery is on a rise and has a
chain link fence around it. KEEFER is cut into a metal band on
the top of the gate. There are many flowers (mostly bulb types)
that have been planted there. Wild flowers were also blooming.
Many of the graves have shells that the families have brought
from the coast to outline or cover. This cemetery shows that
families continue to visit and care for this resting place for
their loved ones.
