UNION HILL BAPTIST CHURCH OF CHRIST
Union Hill Baptist Church of Christ was organized in
Bedias, Grimes County, Texas, February 11, 1873. Mr. W. N.
WILLIAMSON of College Station is a descendant of Samuel Pryor
SMITH (1841 -1927) who was one of the charter members. In 1963,
Mr. WILLIAMSON published the Minutes of the Union Hill Baptist
Church of Christ just as they were written' and de icated it to
the descendants, relatives and friends of Samuel Pryor SMITH.
This book has minutes from 1882 through 1895, a member-
ship roll, the 'Decorum of Union Hill Church', and the Covenant.
In his introduction, Mr. WILLIAMSON says "Few documents surpass
the Covenant in beauty, clarity and direction of purpose. With-
holding all judgment, I am content to believe that how well
these early Christians achieved their objectives has long been
decided.
The charter members, and signers of the Covenant of
Union Hill Baptist Church of Christ, were listed:

OLD DOCUMENTS OF ROBERTSON COUNTY
Our Court House Super Sleuth has been at it again!
Eul.ine BENBOW was in the Robertson County Courthouse in
Franklin the other day and found some old marriage records that
were exciting because they were so olds! A couple of these are
reproduced on page 46. Please note that it says The Republic
of Texas, County of Robertson and are dated in 18381: These are
just to whet your curiosity. If you are interested in this
place and period, go check them soon as Euline reports they are
very old and have not been copied so far as she could ascertain.
(We concede they may be on LDS microfilm.)

THE OLD THREE HUNDRED (Continued from Vol. II #2, pp. 28 -30)
These are the colonists settled under the terms of Austin's
first contract. They came to be known as "The Old Three Hundred ".
This list, compiled by Lester G. BUGBEE, and published in the Texas
Historical Quarterly for October, 1897 (Volume I), gives the names
of the colonists, the amount of land received by each, the present
county in which the land is located, and the date the title was
issued. A labor of land was about 177 acres, and a sitio, or league,
about 4,428 acres.

Received a nice letter from one of our members with some
clippings. M.C. FORISTER is the gr- gr -gr- granddaughter of Major
John Washington TABOR, twice mayor of Bryan, for whom Tabor was
named. She was guest of honor in Floresville, TX recently for the
dedication of the Mary C. FORISTER Center, dedicated to the
service of special children. As a part of her speech she read a
poem that she wrote. She is a :spec al person, and we hope some-

The January meeting topic has not yet been announced,
but you can bet it will be a good onet We will meet as usual, on
the third Monday which will be January 19, 1981, at the Bryan
Library, 7:00 - 9 :00. We will have new officers at that time.
Did you notice that both slates are listed on page 44.? The 1980
slate of officers headed by Ralph McCORMICK has done an outstand-
ing job. The ogranization voted to purchase a book in honor of
the officers to be given to the genealogy section of the Bryan
Library. The 1981 officers headed by Dorothy CLARK are already
planning good things for the coming year. Don't miss a single
meetingt:

GENEALOGICAL RESEARCH AT A &M
Bill PAGE, Library Assistant at the A &M University
Library, has given us a tool that may help to unlock the gene-
alogical sources that we know must be in the Library, and yet
appear hidden in unexpected placest In the ADVERTISER (I -1,
pp. 18- 20)was information concerning the card catalog and how to
use it - -what to look for, etc. Also in that issue were the indexes
and bibliographies that will also be useful. In the ADVERTISER
(I -1, pp. 25 -27) began the listing by state and code for finding
the general books on that subject. Alabama through Louisiana were
given. Again, a word of advice- -ask one of the library assis-
tants where the books are. A general rule is 'F' on the fifth
floor, 'Z' on the first.

estate. If you find any information on him, he is related
also. A J.W. PARKER (James) was on the committee and he
could have been the widow, Sarah Jane PARKER BOLTON's
brother or father. She was born in Brazos Co. in 1828 or
1829. She remarried in 1 to Isaac N. ARNOLD and her
name was signed Sarah Ann not Jane, and on her cemetery
marker at the Peach Creek Cemetery is as Sarah A. ARNOLD,
but is the same person.
Sarah Jane PARKER's family would have to be an early
or first settlers in Brazos Co. since she was born in
1828 or 1829. Who were her parents? Is her husband
buried in a 'PARKER' cemetery plot? I have a long list
of PARKER names that I'm saving. They came from Georgia.
My gr-gr-grandmother was a PARKER, my gr-grandmother
married a PARKER and my own grandfather and grandmother
were BOLTON-PARKER marriage, believed to have been second
cousins.1 See what genealogy can unearth?
The BOLTON's came from Bolton, England. The PARKERs
are French descent. BOLTON's and PARKER's fought in the
American Revolution and may be why they left Englandl

Robert McJILTON, a recent member, called to say that he
had investigated the information in our last issue about the
availability of the Eagle. He says that there is now a new
managing editor, Mr. Robert FLEISCHER, and he said that the
copies of the Emile were for their own reference and records.
Mr. McJILTON did say, however, that the Bryan Library has
copies of the Eagle back to 1894, and are available for our
research. The X&M Library also has Eagle copies so we may
work in either of these places--possibly more accessible
anywayl
Thanks for the up-dated information.
The Henry Prairie Baptist Church has been in existence
for one hundred and two years. About six miles south of
Franklin in Robertson County, the white frame church has on
it's walls the entire roll of membership for those one hundred
and two years with the date received, date dismissed, how
received and how dismissed. Perhaps at a later date we can
publish the older names in this Church. The church officers
are also listed, including pastors, when called, church clerks,
Church treasurers and Deacons.
Euline BENBOW found this historic church for us.
