HomeMy WebLinkAbout240425 -- City Counicl -- Agenda Questions Council questions and staff responses for items on April 25, 2024 City Council Meeting 7.2 Annual Concrete Curb, Gutter, and Flatwork Installation Sponsors: Emily Fisher Question: Can you give an example of a place where fibermesh is used because the surface is not exposed to vehicular traffic, but is still concrete? Response: We have not used fiber reinforcement in concrete for any flatwork. The language comes from the TXDOT standard specification. Chances are low that we would ever use fiber in lieu of steel rebar, but the option is there if steel availability or price became an issue. 7.3 Purchase of new Panasonic Toughbook Rugged Mobile Data Terminals for PD Sponsors: Sam Rivera Question: I thought replacement schedule for IT was 5 years, why are these in a 4 year replacement cycle? Response: Almost all computers have been on a four-year replacement schedule. Only Police and Fire in- vehicle computers were on a five-year replacement schedule. We found that we had the most issues with Police and Fire in-vehicle computers in year five. We did purchase an extended warranty for those machines but fixing them still meant a delay since they all had to be shipped back to the manufacturer for repair. After consultations, it was decided to move the Police and Fire machines to a four-year replacement schedule last year. 7.4 Purchase of new Panasonic Toughbook Rugged Mobile Data Terminals for PD Sponsors: Sam Rivera Question: What kinds of threats does this detect? Response: Using a Security Operations Center (SOC) goes beyond the protections we use for viruses or malware. Kudelski provides personnel and software to continuously monitor our network and computers, allowing them to identify and mitigate security threats 24/7. If a threat is detected, then the SOC can deactivate a user account or computer that has been compromised to prevent widespread damage to the city network. 7.7 Acoustical Ceiling at 1207 Texas Ave. Sponsors: Jennifer Cain Question: Why is this not funded through HOT funds? Response: This project could be funded through General Funds, HOT funds, or a combination of the two. General funds were chosen based on availability. 9.1 Real Estate Contract for Lots 1 & 2 in College Station Business Center Sponsors: Michael Ostrowski Question: What is the approximate gross Return on Investment (ROI) for the taxpayer on the two Fera lots? Response: The City did not acquire this property through financial purchase. The acquisition of this property was part of a land swap for part of the Pebble Creek development.
