Development Services February 1, 2006 Dear Folks, The City of College Station Historic Preservation Committee and Office of Neighborhood Services invites you to participate in an exciting community heritage project. The City of College Station Director of Parks & Recreation Steve Beachy has requested assistance to provide an historical, interpretive walk that provides a brief overview of the significant events that have shaped the development of America since 1776." Our participation will involve preparing the interpretive content for a one mile walking path called, "America's Mile" to be located in Phase II of Veterans Park. Every twenty feet in the walking path will represent one year of America's history. So we will be creating a timeline of local, state, and national events from 1776 until the present. We are looking for members of the community whose areas of expertise include history, writing, research and /or community involvement. A team well versed in these areas would seek documented input from various sources and compile a list of possible events for consideration. The formation of this timeline is a short -term project to be finished in a matter of months. This heritage feature to be included in Veterans Park will be a wonderful addition for families, school children and guests to our City.
