ORANGE BLOSSOMS
Transcribed by Bill PAGE
Tuesday evening the 20th, at 8:30 o'clock, Dr. WADDEL officiating, Mr. Sheridan
CAVITT, of Bryan, Texas, the past three years a student of the S.W.P.U., led to the
alter Miss Beulah, daughter of Mrs. Anna HOWERTON, of this city. The interesting
event was quietly solemnized at the residence of the bride's mother, on Second
Street, no one being present except the family and a half dozen intimate friends.
Wednesday morning the happy pair took the train for their Western home, Bryan,
Texas. During his residence with us Mr. CAVITT has made a host of friends, who
warmly congratulate him on winning for his life partner a woman of so much worth
and so many charms of mind and person. The large number of valuable presents
received on the occasion attest the great popularity of the bride and are fitting
souvenirs of her happy girlhood days. We wish them a long life and much happiness.

FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK
The following was received from Clara B. MOUNCE, City Librarian, City of Bryan.
"The restoration of the Carnegie Library building is assured.
"The City of Bryan received a grant through the Statewide Transportation
Enhancement Program. Announced on April 15, 1994, a list of recommended projects
was released through the Texas Dept. of Transportation. 82 projects were
recommended for funding with 90 million dollars.
"The total project cost (site work, contingency, architectural and engineering
fee, rehabilitation/construction) is estimated at $621,740 in a master plan prepared
by WAGNER & KLEIN, architects and preservation consultants of Fredericksburg, TX.
The DOT grant is $497,392 with the city's pledge of $124,348.
"The city is awaiting notice of how the grant will be administered. It is
estimated that the rehabilitation will take approximately 18 months to complete from
beginning to end. It would take about 6 months to prepare design and construction
documents, complete required environmental review procedures, consult with and
receive approval from the Texas Historical Commission, prepare bid documents,
advertise project, award bids, and conduct pre-construction conferences. The actual
construction phase would take at least 12 months according to the architects,
WAGNER & KLEIN of Fredericksburg.
"The Carnegie Restoration Committee, with support from the Friends of the
Library and the Library Board, will fund raise for furnishing the building with
equipment, furniture and other costs. Mrs. Elaine VANCE of the Restoration
Committee estimates that an additional $100,000 should be raised locally to furnish
the building. The Friends of the Library pledged $30,000 in memory of Hazel
RICHARDSON, librarian from 1961 to 1978.
"Contributions for the Carnegie furnishings can be mailed to Elaine VANCE,
Carnegie Restoration, in care of the Bryan Public Library, 201 E. 26th St., Bryan, TX
77803. The Friends have set up a special account to handle tax-exempt donations."
The Brazos Genealogical Association will do limited local Brazos County
research for $10.00 an hour plus the cost of any copies. We will check marriage
records, probate indexes, grantee and grantor land indexes (within a two to five year
time frame), our new Brazos County cemetery listing book, the index to Brazos
Countv Historv. Rich Past--Briaht Future, the Texas Census indexes for 1850-1880
and fourteen years plus of our quarterlies. The money raised from this project will be
used to support exchanges with other genealogical societies and other special
projects. If you are interested in this service, please write to us at P.O. Box 5493,
Bryan, TX 77805 and enclose a SASE.
